I'm looking at buying a Leon FR with the ACT engine. Been told some horror stories about this engine but cant find anything on here.

Any truth in it?

Also fancy the diesel but only covering 10k a year max probably means it isnt worth it.

Maybe you could read some more and you would find out that the new TSI engines are not the same as the old, problematic ones:). So no, no truth in it with the new ones.

Yes, it's not worth it. Just search the forum for 1.4 TSI(there are a few) and I don't think you will find a disappointed owner.

No horror stories with mine. Fantastic engine!!

the more I read about the 140ACT, the more I wish I'd researched better.
I do love the performance of my 184 diesel, but the DPF thing does bother me, and certainly the government (national and local) seem to have us in their sights....

I have only had my FR 1.4 ACT for a couple of months now, but I'm very pleased with it.

My daughter had the 140PS (none ACT) version and that had done about 8000 miles with no issues, this was why we went for the same car.

Great economy, engine warms up quickly on these cold mornings, performance is good too.

I have the 140 1.4 and love it. No issues yet.

As said above it's the older 1.4 which gives problems.

I test drove the 1.4 ACT it's a great engine, lots of power, feels more powerful than the figures suggest.

Interesting you say that.

From what I have seen from road tests of other similar cars with similar turbo engines of similar power, the 1.4tsi seems to out perform them in most respects.

Perhaps the HP and torque are understated- it wouldn't be the first time.

Every time I floor the throttle in my 1.4 I cannot believe the acceleration and smoothness.

I have owned many high performance cars and this little engine is the best I have ever driven.

I tend to agree with this.

I came from an Audi TT, 225PS and must admit I'm quit impressed by the 1.4 ACT engine, it seems to punch above its spec, also this little engine is light so helps with the balance of the car.

I think the 14 engines that had a lot of trouble was the ones in the polo gti, Seat ibiza cupra and Skoda Fabia vrs theses engine had a supercharger and turbo fixed to a seven speed dsg.

I had a Fabia vrs used to use 1L oil every 400 miles so after 4k traded it in, Skoda didn't seem to be interested in sorting it out.

I got my new ST FR 1.4 ACT in October and have put just over 3600 miles on it to date. I always keep a record of my mileage and fuel use and up to now the car is averaging 48.5mpg overall. My best tankful has been 50.1 mpg and my worst 46.2mpg.
My journeys are mostly a mixture of town driving and A roads, the car has hardly been on a motorway at all.
I'm well pleased with the car so far, not had any of the commonly reported problems and I actually think that the Satnav is quite good!
Looking to get a detachable towbar fitted soon, would welcome any feedback and especially photos of any that people have had fitted to their STs.
