Hi Guys,

I’m looking to ditch the front fog lights on my 2016 FR, and replace the grilles with cupra versions.

Has anyone done this?

1) I am fairly sure the grilles will fit, however I know the Cupra has actual vents whereas the FR is ‘fake’ - in the Cupra, do these have ducting or anything behind them? I.E. am I gonna get water going into places it shouldn’t be, if I put the real vents on my FR?

2) Am I right in thinking I can code out the fog lights via OBD11?

3) Am I able to just seal the plugs and tuck the wiring up somewhere?

Thanks guys!

Anyone? Even if it’s just knowing what’s behind the grille on the PFL cupra.

Maybe something you've not thought of....make sure you tell your insurance about that change. They could regard fog lights as a safety item, and removing them could possibly invalidate your insurance if they are not informed

I’ve yet to find a definitive answer, mainly as while it is OE, front fogs aren’t a legal requirement.

No, but they are a safety item, fitted from the factory. The vehicle type approval will include fitment of front fogs, and this is where the insurance companies can use a loophole to invalidate your cover. As long as it is on the list of fitted options on the vehicle data plate, it is a modification if removed, and modifications need to be declared.

I've heard of claims refused before now because rear wipers have been deleted - not a legal requirement, but part of the type approval specification of the vehicle

Hmmm... does vehicle type approval extend to ALL models of SEAT Leon 5dr 5F, or is it specific to SE, Xcellence, FR, Cupra, etc?

My front fog and grille need replaced (thanks Mr Squirrel), and it would be a pain to have to pay £100ish when I can get a set of Cupra vents for £40 for a pair.
