I'm looking to put a set of steel wheels and winter tyres on my 1.4 act FR, when I check the usual websites for the wheel package it shows two size options. 15" wheels with 195 65 tyres or 16" wheels with 205 55 tyres. Has anyone fitted winter tyres and wheels and if so what size?
Thanks.

I ran 16" alloys with winter tyres on my 1.8 FR last winter. For sale in the parts forum on here , maybe quite a bit cheaper than a new set on steels

Not put winters on my FR but had them on my previous 3 series in 16, 205,55 and they worked great.

I think the general rule is smaller or thinner the tyre the better they work at getting through snow, slush etc.

If the 15's clear your brakes and you don't mind the look of smaller wheels on your car go for them as obviously they'll be cheaper then 16's and for the 3/4 months you'll have them on the car just make a decision on value for money.

If you care about looks and can afford the outlay go for 16's either size will work great in the cold stuff

It's always bloody winter in England. I just crack on. No point in the car looking crap for 3/4 of the year. I'd change the tires instead.

Just waiting for my winter alloys to arrive. I bought a set of 18" Skoday Octavia VRS Golus alloys. Matching them up with a set of Vredestein Winter tyres. Should be easier to clen that the 19" multispokes and no diamond cut surfaces :)
