Pretty standard tho you wouldn't buy and golf gti with tdi on the back would you!

no, but thats not the same.

he never bought a cupra with fr on the back. just the car manufacturer

like for like would be buying a golf gti with just golf or no badge on the back. Thats not so unbelievable.

i'm just saying...............

Spoke to one of the guys down at Bartletts today and he reckons the very early Mk2 Cupras had LEON not CUPRA written on the back.

Problem solved?

Hopefully!

Going to do some more digging around to see if I can find another one like it.

Hmm all the original press photos had the CUPRA lettering

And this seems to be the earliest UK car

So your going to sell the car because it has LEON written on the back instead of Cupra? Bit drastic.

Worst case its had a light hit on the back and the owner got a new tailgate from a scrappy from a normal Leon. It's not likely the damage was heavy or else it would have shown up on the HPI as a cat D or C. As long as it looks okay, drives okay and everything is straight then i don't think its anything to worry about.

Best case is that it has been debadged at some point and the dealership you got it from re-badged it incorrectly. Dealers can be funny about de-badging actually, when I sold my FR the garage asked me if I had the original letters because they were going to put them back on!

However the fact that they are trying to cover it up by telling you a pack of lies does make me wonder...

Everything I have found points to all cars saying CUPRA on the back.

Just had a quick look inside the hatchback and everything looks as I would imagine it should to my untrained eyes.

Got a mate in the bodywork game so will get him to check it out for me next time I am over his way.

Drives fine from what I can tell and everything else about the car seems in order so going to forget about it for now.

Might get some CUPRA badges to get it how it should be though.

Sorry but that isn't necessarily true. All Category C/ D means is someone has placed an insurance claim against the car and the insurance company chose to write it off. No indication of severity of damage. By the same measure a car could have been totalled and never had an insurance claim if the owner repaired themselves, although that is unlikely its possible!

I agree with this :)

Get the dealer to put the right badges on, saves you money at the end of the day.
As long as everything else is ok and you're happy with everything else about the car then go for it.

If you want to settle the finance on mine, you can have that, comes with Cupra on the back :D

Place I bought it from is over 200 miles away so probably cheaper to buy the letters myself! :)

That is total BULLSHIT.

I have seen 56 reg Cupras out there and I'm sure that some 06 reg ones exist. Yours is not an early one.

Easy solution. Get them to send you a Cupra badge in the post.

I never bought it from Bartletts.

Bartletts are the Seat dealer who were the first of the two owners of the car before me.

That might even be why it has LEON written on the back of it instead of CUPRA.

Who knows?

Not me! :)
