Leon Speedo/Mobile Camera

Hi All,

I was on the A65 yesterday and was raining quite heavy, so I generally missed the 40 sign but came around a bend to see a mobile speed camera van sat off the road (If anyone knows the A65, it's just the last few tight bends before you get to the M6)

Anyways, I come around the corner and notice it there - glance down at my speedo and noticed I'm doing 44/45 on the clock and thought 'Sh*t is this a 40'. Anyways I did not slam on, I just eased off the gas as I knew what I was doing etc.

My question is, you reckon I will get away with the 10% on that? According to my Sat Nav is read 41mph. I always thought the van had to have all 4 wheels on the road too and do they have to carry calibration certificates?

Know I was in the wrong, but technically I was only speeding my 1mph.

Car is a Leon FR with 18s so seems to read slightly out if I am honest, more so at 30 than 70 for instance.

7 years driving, never a point.

it must be 10% as not all clocks are calibrated to show exact speed ... nothing to worry about in my opinion

even if you do they should offer you the speed seminar for it being so little over i got speed seminar for 46mph in a 40 zone you will just get to pay about £90 i think it costs these days and no points but like every 1 else has said you should be ok

i agree, you'll deffo be sound matey - but you'll be twitching everytime ye letterbox lifts for the next 14days!!! ;-)

Not had a speeding ticket in 2years of driving surprising how i thrashed me last two cars, but my boss got one last week took two days to come through the door can take up to 14days as littlefella said, i personally thought it was 10%+2 so i would have thought you will be ok, good luck

sat nav gives you the proper speed, so you were doing 41. The speedo gives a reading over what you are doing.

So you were doing 41mph which is less than the cut off for speeding fine :)

Don't rely on the 10% +2mph rule as it's not hard n fast, it's at the discretion of the camera operator/ police force for that area as far as i understand it!

As for the Scamera vans then basically if you come across one and your speeding (enough to trigger it) then your goose is cooked because from what i understand as soon as they've seen ya they've got ya(line o site n all that not withstanding!)

if there sticklers then you might get a NIP!!

10% rule is nationally excepted for speedo error, the +1 or 2mph is myth.

Understood, my thinking was it was done on the clock speed.

All seems okay then :) Was definately not doing over 45 on clock.

All depends on the speed you were doing when the van saw you and not when you saw the van.

Depends on the authority too... I ended up with a speed awareness course when I got done doing 51 in a 40... (started accelerating before the NSL sign, but after the built up area had ended) This was Suffolk...

That's the same day that I also discovered the vans can get you going away from them as well as facing you...
