Leon ST gas boot struts

Hi all, has anyone with an ST replaced the boot struts so that the boot opens using the key fob? There are various threads and videos online showing it working on the hatchback but can't find any with it working on the estate version (people have tried the replacement ones used on the hatch but with no luck). Thanks.

I kept my original struts and messed about with various springs over the strut rods plus I used some scirocco spring bump stops.
It worked well until gas strut popped off the ball fixing with a bang!
I haven't really pursued it any further yet.
(I did try after market struts with a higher rating but the damping wasn't sufficient as the tailgate reached fully open)
I'd be interested in knowing if anyone finds a working solution.

I think I read somewhere about spring bump stops potentially damaging the boot? wanted to avoid this route....
Gas struts seem to be working nicely on normal hatch though :-/

I think there may be an issue with the geometry on the ST. In other words, the struts may just go over-centre when the lid is shut so no matter how hard they push they will be pushing 'shut' instead of 'open'.
This may not be correct as I haven't studied it that closely yet...
