Leon ST pond in boot

Hello guys,

shocked to see that fishing pond on my 15 plate cupra st boot. Googled a bit only to find out the golf mk7 has been prone to water leakage in the boot thanks to the vents at the rear bumper. Another culprit I suspect is the water drainage that is blocked on the sun roof.

Fyi removed the soundproof to dry out the metal already.

Anyone had similar issue before?

Cheers,

Blocked drains can overflow at the connection in the boot behind the trim.

You can Google and find an easy guide how to unblock them.
However it’s even easier than that guide states as you can use a long pipe unblocker to do the rear from underneath the car, without removing any trim.
1.5-2m would do the trick I got one off Amazon that did the trick.

However….

The sunroof itself is just as likely to be leaking from either the seal, or the channel/frame which is a different and more serious issue.
You’d know is this was the case if the headliner is damp.

Theres quite a few threads on here about the various types of leaks.

I had this issue in my hatchback and it was the vents. Water was pooling under the rear light where the vent is and overflowing into the bottom of the boot.

I ran my hand around all the pillars and they were bone dry. Sent it back to pentagon seat and they sorted it. Bumper off job apparently, don’t know what it would set you back if there’s no warranty (they can be funny on water ingress on warranty). I hope you find the culprit soon, my car stunk for a good few weeks and required several wet vacs to sort it.

There’s be a number of instances of water ingress around the edge of those air pressure equalisation vents on the mk7 Golf - it gets in around the edges where the vent assembly should fit tightly enough against the surrounding bodywork panel to make an effective watertight seal, but sometimes that seal will fail over time. There’s a vent assembly on each side of the car behind the rear bumper cover - you can see the R/H side vent on the mk7 Golf in this picture (picture originally posted by forum member @basemodel over on golfmk7.com forum).

Yes, It would be a bumper off job to replace the vent assembly (or to attempt a repair by applying a silicone type sealant around the edges to make an effective watertight seal), as it’s fitted into the bodywork panel from the outside.

I've had leaking rear washer make puddle in my boot on my pervious A4 - so double check it is rain water and not your screen wash.

ok a sit rep here, got the bumper off and applied silicone seal round the vents, but the area around are bone dry on both sides, guesss they aren't the culprit then...

interestingly the water doesn't seem to come from anywhere above the spare wheel well, back to square one. probably need a specialist to look into
