Leon Wing Mirrors - Tear Drop or Straight?

Hi All

Firstly, a wonderful forum for us SEAT converts....has come in most useful just recently.

Quick question though....

I drive a 1.8 20V SE on a 53 plate...

I need replacement drivers side electric wing mirror. Plenty of straight versions available on eBay, and via breakers yards etc, but not the tear drop ones that I have. Can a straight version wing mirror fit my model of Leon?

Yes they are interchangeable, straight swap. Make sure you get electric folding if that what yours were.

Were many Leons around that time fitted with tear drops? They seem so hard to come by....

Think they started on the facelift roughly 02 plates onwards people breaking them seem to say the mirrors go first.

If you search on Ebay don't limit yourself to just the Leon, Ibiza teardrops are exactly the same fit so someone will charge the earth for a pair of Leon ones and you could get the Ibiza's for a song, also as Lee stated if your are foldies get the foldies

Thanks for clearing that up Lee, I thought because they looked the same it would be a straight swap but you know what thought did.

The earliest tear drops are 03 plate. Mine is an 03 AMK with tear drops, one of the first with them and one of the last AMKs.

Hope it is okay that I "steal" your thread. I guess it's enough mirror-threads out there

First I want to excuse my self for my bad english, since I'm a Norwegian and I do not speak or write english that often.
Also the Norwegian seatforum is down at the moment, so thats why I'm asking here. Also its not so much activity since VAG-Norge desided to sell Skoda instead of Seat in 2006

Anyway...
I have a -01 LC4 tdi 150hp. Since it is a -01 it has the prefacelift mirrors, but lucky for me they are electric adjustable, electric foldable and heated. Like many others in here I also want to change to facelift/teardrop mirrors, but when I search for them on ebay I allways get the same answer from dealers that sell aftermarked teardrops. Facelift mirrors will not fit my 2001 LC. But after reading a lot here on seatcupra.net, I begin to think that I can swap to facelift mirrors(el. adjust. el fold and heated) without any modifications. Is that correct? I have seen that many are struggeling with the folding, but is that a problem since mine already are foldable?
I'm affraid that it will be a problem and that they won't fit. I have done some electrical work before, so if the plugs/connectors don't fit I will figure it out, all I need is a circuit diagram. But like many others, I want to keep my Leon clean and original.

Also another question. Is there any different in RHD and LHD mirrors? Can I, which have a left-hand-drive car, buy mirrors from ebay.co.uk? I know that on the driverside the mirror(glas) got wide angle.

They are a direct swap, between the 2 styles of mirrors.

You can buy uk mirrors and then just buy the angled lens if required.

Your English is better than some on here

That's great! Why do the sellers on ebay say that their mirrors do not fits my car then? I have also read in here that some had some problems, is that because their mirrors are not foldable? Or bought for Ibiza

I can buy angled lens for lhd any then have angled lens on both sides

The sellers on ebay are clueless sometimes. If the car the tear drops come of are folding , they are a direct fit, i did it to my Leon.
Yeah, if the car wasn't equipped with folding mirrors, the actual window motor needs changing too, and yes, someone bought ibiza ones by mistake.

No problem regarding help, i have moved on but still visit to help.

Motorhog are breaking several Leons , they may have some ............ massive outfit with several yards.
