I have a 2006 Leon, petrol 1.6S, that is causing me a deal of heartache and pain. I've had it fourteen months and in that time I've had a number of problems withthe EPC light (sometimes accompanied by the emissions light) coming on and the car defaulting to limp mode.

It's been back to two different Seat dealers here in Dublin and has had a throttle change and several sensor changes - yet still this problem keeps happening. Also, some times when stationary at lights etc. the revs stick at about 1500-2000 rpm, which stays the same until I blip the throttle. To me this indicates that the issue probably is with the throttle controls themselves, but by the same token I'm not a VAG group technician.

So I have two questions - firstly, does anyone have any idea whatsoever is causing this, as clearly in the three visits especially for this issue and the three services it's had in the last year the dealers don't and secondly does anyone have a number for Seat Ireland as I am having a problem with getting a replacement car while I wait yet again for a slot to have the car fixed. Given that most of my miles are motorway, the car is just dangerous when limp mode kicks in in the outside lane so I intend to get onto them in the interim for a replacement. [:@]

I am no mechanic and I know others have had this problem sorted by throttle sensor changes but I remember 17yrs ago when I was 19 and still had hair :)
I had an astra GTE which kept going limp mode especially when overtaking.

It went into numerous garages, cost a fortune and nothing worked until one mechanic said he changed a chip which monitered the amount of fuel and air the fuel injection system regulated.

Means absolutely nothing to me but it drove like a dream for another 6 months until I pranged it on a merc, ahhhh! those were the days :p

Finally figured it out. Faulty rear offside brakes causing ecu issues. Brakes eventually seized and both rear replaced. No more problems! It's been six months now, seems to be cured. I'm back in love again.

thats a very strange resolution ! would of never of thought of that ! glad its sorted mate

Yeah, it was a wierd thing alright. Apparently when the brake light comes on there's a sensor that tells the ecu to stop injecting so much fuel. The faulty brakes were apparently tripping the sensor and periodically the ecu would just sulk into limp mode for a while of these strange messages.

Still, it was all done in the end under warranty, and is finally resolved. Shame somebody piled into the arse of it at traffic lights three weeks ago... Going to pick it up from the garage this afternoon after a few days tlc and repair.
