My first real forray into these parts I have a couple of questions for you guys...

First off are all 1.9 TDI sports 130bhp? Whats the engine code for a 130 engine so I could check?

Brakes I understand, but suspension, what sort of price is a set of coilovers for a 130tdi? I'm sorting a budget here and the ICE has eaten most of it already hahaha

Going to look at a TDI sport tonight on my way home, sounds like a good one but will see.

Pete

After some trawling it looks like the 130bhp code is ASZ can anyone confirm that?

brakes, wheels, and a slight drop will have to happen once the car hits my drive so doing all the research in one go lol

Engine code for the PD130 sounds about right.

312mm brakes may or may not fit behind the standard wheels depending on what car they've come off btw...

ASZ is the engine code.
Monroe reflex are a good alternative to standard shocks, as Mr Coyote has found out at the ring.
Further the 130 Sports had 6 instrument dials instead of the normal 4.

not all the sports come with the 6 dial dash.

Also you may wana test drive an FR, The FR comes with the shorter ration 6- speed box than the sport. So it does feel a little livelier. so be aware. Plus you get the different suspension set up and anti roll bar on the FR. also the FR may hold value a smidging better as FR is the new current flavour for sporty seats. Also when you change your wheels yu'll get more for the FR ones than a sport. Plus you get the FR/cupra specific rear lights and dash which look slightly better.

Right had a look over the car and a quick test drive last night. Felt ok but the aircon doesn't work, said they'd re-gass it and get that working again.

Has horrid yellow surrounds round the dials, they would have to go. Looks like Imperial Blue which is nice :D

Handled better than I thought actually, with a few tweeks I recon it'll do.

Few extra Q's

How are the rubbing strips attached to the doors?

Are the dial surrounds just clip on? I think they probably are so I'll be looking for some chrome ones I think.

Pete

Rubbing strips are pushed into the doors, so if removed will have holes there. Most people just colour code them.

The dial surrounds I believe do come off, j.a.kelly sprayed his yellow ones silver and they look quite sweet.

From talking to j.akelly, they are fiddly to get out and break easily, so might be worth buying new ones and spraying them. It is possible though

Make sure you check the Front Wishbone, Rear bushes as at 2.5 years and 58k one of mine has just snapped i swear (looks wonky, i knoew they were going and getting knocking). They have voids and the rubber perishes - you can replace them with a non-maintenence cupra variant, its probably about £120-140 all in fitted at a guess.

Just to comment on the yellow dial surrounds, I recently bought an Ibiza with the same colour scheme (blue paint with the yellow flecked seats and yellow dials) from a main dealer. My reaction was the same as yours so I immediately asked them to change the dial surrounds. Although they intially said it would be easy for them to do they found out it wasn't so I still have them... :<(
Also I asked thme about putting in white dials which again is apparently not straightforward and would have meant replacing the whole instrument cluster (?) I haven't tried getting the dial surrounds out yet but don't want to scratch anything trying..

That'll be Eclipse Blue then, same as mine was :)

I had the same feeling about the yellow dials, but actually grew to like them :runaway:

ASZ is deffo the 130 number, note they downgraded to the engine in the Sports to a 100 in later model years.
Also the spec got trimmed away each year, I suspect now they don't actually have a steering wheel...earlier years 02/03 etc had most kit - 8 speakers, extra dials, boot light, interior movement sensor deactivation switch, etc etc
