Hi guys, looking at a Leon FR 1.4tsi or 2.0 tdi

Looking at the sites like drive the deal etc, are these discounts normally available easily from main dealers.

Coming from a Company BMW 520d, I imagine it wont be as refined/quiet on the motorway, but is it too loud?

My parents have a 2013 ford focus and that seems to make a hell of a lot of road noise compared to the 5, will a leon drive me mad!!

Cheers

Chris

I have been looking at the ST FR 184 and the cheapest deal on drive the deal with the options I want was similar to arnold sharks web site but I imagine when going into AC and adding the coulpe of options then drive the deal would be cheaper but I would try to get them to match it.
But really I would like to wait to see the Cupra ST

I've got a 2.0 TDI with 18" wheels, and I have to say its one of the quietest running cars I've ever been in. Ironically, I think its quieter than my brothers A3 on the same chassis. Mine is the 150PS model, so doesn't have the sound actuator which could add a little drone from what I've read on here if your like me and drive in Sports mode all the time.

I was really paranoid that the 18" wheels were going to make a difference to the ride quality and noise over the one I test drove at the dealers, but I think the Continental tyres that came with them are superb.

Get down your local dealership and take one out for a spin, I think you will be impressed.

Thanks, the 520 has 19" wheels, runflats and m sport suspension, it cant ride any harsher than that... its just road noise/ wind noise which drives me mad.

Booked in for test drives, hopefully the North East dealers can get a good deal!!

I'm coming from a 2012 C250CDI on 18's and whilst you can tell the drop in quality, I can't say I noticed any increased road noise on my test drive. I'll be honest and say I did notice the ride firmness on the Leon but it seemed about the same as the Merc when I had Sport mode enabled. Shame the driving modes on the Leon don't change the suspension, just the gearing.

I get mine on Tuesday - 5dr FR 184 DSG with Winter, Convenience, Tech, Sound, ACC and Alcantara/Leather. Can't wait !!

you will appreciate the dsg over the god awful 7g box in the merc

I've got the 184 with 18s on, you won't be disappointed with how they drive

sport mode is bit louder but on motorway they are a great car performance and economy wise.

I had the fantastic manual in the Merc and this is my first auto.

Hi. I have the 1.4 tsi 140 hp sc fr manual and I recommend it, I remapped it and the performance is simmilar to the 1.8

My office is in Thornaby so Jennings was my first port of call... Are they discount friendly :)

I've got a 2014 ST FR 150 2.0 TDi with Tech and Convenience packs, 18 inch wheels and alcantara seat trim. Other than door rattles and the drivers side headlight pointing too low (into the shop tomorrow to hopefully get fixed) it's a brilliant car. Comfortable, quick enough, enough room for a family of 4 (including a 7 & 5 year old) and good fuel economy.

Last night I spent the day on various sites and configurators and the spec I am looking for is

5 door
Tech pack
Sound system
Winter pack
Interior led pack.... Not sure what it is...but it sounds cool

Need to decide on engine

1.4 tsi
2.0 tdi 150
2.0 tdi 180

I do around 15k miles a year, 10k are funded by me, the rest is company miles and fuel is not a issue for those

The 180 will have the multi link rear suspension.

We have 2 cars an F31 330d on 19's with adaptive and a Leon FR 184 on 18's. The BMW is more refined than the Leon so I would expect the difference between the 5 Series and the Leon to be more marked but the Leon is far from being uncomfortable and unrefined, long motorway journeys are absolutely fine.

I went from a merc 320 E class estate to a Leon FR184 ST and I don't think the Leon is any noisier. The 184 is heavier, but still handles and ries well; mine does about 50mpg rond the lanes and 60 on a motorway run at 75-80, don't think the 150 diesel would be any cheaper to run.
The 1.4 TSi 150 gets great reviews, is lighter and cheap to tax and insure than the BM, I reckon.
The 184 has great performance.
the stupid noise generator in sport mode is distracting - it's still a diesel - but the noise is acceptable at 80, quiet actually.
But you need to drive them to make your own mind up.

id add the convenience pack......auto lights wiper and anti glare mirror, the tdi 184 better on fuel than the 150, I've driven both

I'd go for the 184 just for the suspension upgrade alone let alone the performance improvement it's altogether more sophisticated when pushing on but doesn't get caught out by sharp ridges in the way the cheaper suspension does. I test drove a 150 and 184 back to back and it makes it more obvious. The 1.4 Tsi is a cracking engine and without the diesel weight at the front turns in better and feels more nimble but it has the torsion beam at the back.

I went from an X3 to an FR 184 and to be fair yes the road noise is more intrusive I found it particularly sensitive to road surfaces but the engine was refined the wind noise was negligible which probably makes road noise more intrusive ... Go for SEAT sound upgrade to make up for it.

Ironically my Cupra on 19' wheels has less road noise so I guess the tyres are the main culprit.

we picked up a 1.4 tsi FR Tech pack, 140hp yesterday. It was ex demonstrator and they had added the upgraded 18" wheels and the convenience pack. it doesn't have the storage pack but im ok with the storage it has. just need to find out how everything works as we came from the basic 1.9tdi reference before!
The tsi drives lovely we were surprised as it's only a 1.4, cant wait to get behind the wheel again!
The only thing I would certainly ask for is a proper space save wheel like we did and not just the repair kit which comes as standard.

The dealer will supply a space saver 16" or 18" for around £165. I noticed it being advertised when I was there last week. If you order from New it's only £100 oddly..
