i recently noticed, while overtaking, a sudden drop in power. almost as if the car had gone into limp home mode. so i ran vagcom and this is the result:

Control Module Part Number: 038 906 012 FK
Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC G500SG 3357
Software Coding: 00002
Work Shop Code: WSC 06403
Additional Info:
1 Fault Found:
17563 - Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71): Short to B+
P1155 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Control Module Part Number: 1M0 920 922 D
Component and/or Version: KOMBI+WEGFAHRSP VDO V03
Software Coding: 05422
Work Shop Code: WSC 00476
Additional Info:
1 Fault Found:
01039 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (G2)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent

any ideas? are these just wiring faults or have i got a couple of duff sensors, and if so where's the best place to get replacements?

will do. where the best place? cheers.

p.s. its an ASV engine, so im not sure on the codes.

just asked an ex vag engineer

he recons i might be able to clean the map sensor, as he said they get gunged up.

yeah but its the same with a maf, its usually a temporary fix, a new one is cheap and gives the best results.

I used to get parts from vagparts.com but they have gone now, so think your going to be looking at one of the parts dealers on here, or your local dealer.

ok

there's an Irish seat dealer who does a good discount, but i cant remeber his contact details.

cheers

cheers. though ive found a local Bosch agent who can do the MAP sensor for £41+vat and the temp sensor for about £6, he said that was a VAG one as well, though that sounds too cheap. what do you recon?

new parts

I have had both of the above faults that you have described. I would be amazed if he could offer you the parts at those prices! if so let me know. The part numbers for the ASV engine are with approximate dealer prices inc VAT that I got last time were

Coolant temp sender - approx £26
059919501A

MAF - around £69 non exchange one though
038906461C

Tedjohnson and seremotors possibly might do them marginally cheaper!

not good news

ok i bought the wrong map to start with, so i changed it this morning. anyway we went out for a run to Peterborough, gave it some go and same problem just after 3k limp mode. so now im about £60 down, as the correct map sensor was more expensive, and no nearer fixing the car :( . im begining to think it would have been better to buy the 90bhp and have it mapped.

ok

just read the codes and ive only got the charge pressure deviation one P1557. im starting to think i might have a similar problem to noblem14:

i did run the vnt excercise program and could just about see the top of the turbo and the little arm moving, but it wasnt moving much, maybe 5mm max.

also i could hear what sounded like hissing near the manifold, almost like ive got a vacuum leak.

on a side note i could also hear a snapping/cracking sound from the area of the alternator and power stearing pump, which seamed to get worse as the the engine temperature increased.

not sure if this would cause problems but ive also modded the egr in vagcom so its clossed.

update

ive sprayed a load of wd40 on the actuator arm and its now moving maybe 10mm, after some assistance from me pushing it with a screwdriver. also ive noticed in vagcom that when i run the vnt excercise program it show's about 1020mbar and about 1100mbar depending on the on or off cycle. i would like to know what other people are getting from there non stuck vnt cars, pretty please, as this will probably be a good indicator of what a good vnt should give.

umm

not sure if ive made things worse but, i took some of the pipes off the n75 and sprayed some carb cleaner in it. now turning the engine off, after vnt excercise session, the n75 was buzzing. have i screwed it?

hello

is anyone out there? i know its a bank holiday and your all probably up the pub, but im kinda getting lonely here.

hooray

i dont need to test it. yesterday i drove for two hours to Leicester and then two hours back, and today theres no limp mode. ive tried several times but cant get it to do it. so i thought id see how far the actuator is moving, by running the vagcom test, and i recon its moving about 25-30mm :) . it seems i may have just had a sticky actuator. i think i may still buy some Ecotek Powerboost and run a can of that through it. theres some sellers on ebay selling it for about £19 a can.

How do you run the vnt exercise program, where abouts do you go in vagcom??

ok

engine section then basic settings and type 11 in the box on the end and click go. it should show some boxes, one of which has off then on alternating in it.
