Lost 1st & 2nd gear

Hey guys, i have just lost 1st and 2nd gear on my gearbox, when i put it into first it goes straight into 3rd. I had to drive it home in 3rd which didnt like hills at slow speed so now the clutch is slipping. Can anyone shed any light on the gearbox problem. Its a Alhambra 98, 115tdi... hope you can help...

what gears can you get ? 5th ok ?

as a guess and well first place to look, check cables operate correctly on top of the gear box

one is forward and back, the other is side to side.

Yes the cable was at fault.. the one on the right as you look down from over the engine had come off the gearbox.. ordered a new set from my local seat garage today and will be here in the morning..

looks like a bit of a bugger to get to, but im sure i will manage.

clip it back on ? or is it worn too far to save ?

Tried to clip it back on.. it seems like its on, then rotates slightly and comes off...so new i have ordered... picking it up in about half an hour,
Is it hard to fit ????

Sorted it all now, after stripping half the cockpit apart... working fine now, but then i had no brakes .... so after looking in the engine compartment i found a pipe had split and came off during the cable work..but happy to say that is on now and working fine...not the easiest of cars to work on...miss my 1975 mini...lol..
