When I started my car yesterday morning (I got stuck as designated driver! :( ) it was producing a lot of white smoke. I left it a running a while to warm up to see if it improved but it didn't until i started driving. Then it seemed to stop altogether.

When I finally got to the families house and the car was nice and warm, it wasn't smoking anymore

It has only started doing this since I changed my oil the other day. and the car seems to run fine, but my fuel economy has gone up quite a bit.

Any ideas?

no there does't seem to be any coolant useage...

Really not sure what it could be  . I only changed the oil
Is your car left outside overnight? It will get very cold so you will gets lots of white smoke (steam) when you start in the morning until it warms up.
Dont forget its going down to well below zero overnight.
Keep an eye on it all the same.

mine did the same most likley all the moisture and ice in the system

Did your mpg drop as well??

I've booked the car in to be looked at this weekend and decided If they can't find anything, I'll get them to do the 50k mile service early and get all the filters changed etc.

I'll also ask them to use VW 506.01 oil and see if that makes a difference.

it has dropped a bit but then I've only done short 10 mile drives over last few days and using tesco diesel. The car hasnt had a good run on the motorway yet after standing for over 6 weeks when I had the op. Is due a cambelt soon mostlikely will get it done next month before the warranty runs out.

Going for my first long drive in over 2 months on Friday hoping this will clear out the car. Will also reset the adaptation on the car to get it to relearn see what happens. It has only puffed out the smoke on first start after few seconds it was fine so Cant see it being a n issue. I hope

could be a small about of oil that had accumulated in the turbo over that time , take it slow at the start n after about 30mins when the oils up to proper temp , give it a bit of a rodger to clear its throat

when I took it out for first time took ages to warm up and felt very rough with this weather and since I just had a new turbo I wait at least until the water temp gauge is up to 90 before I get anywhere above 2k rpm . remeber reading that after engine water temp gets to 90 its still good 10-20 minute before oil gets up to full temp. any ideas if this is true.

one of the reasons I want to get a temp gauge for oil but dont want to use a sump plug sensor for mainly becasue it will be killed to easily

yes i ahve a oil temp gauge a good 15-20 mins from engine start up to oil running temp

why will ur sump plug sensor get killed

Sounds about right as I've got the oil and water temperature guages in mine.
