does the jetex have a noticable performance increase then? because KnN state you will gain around 10bhp if the jetex gains the same results at a cheaper price then im sold. im not bothered how it looks. im interested in the sound and performance not the nice colour coded engine bay ill never see behind the wheel.

The K&N filter and the Jetex filter are practiacally identical in terms of construction, only difference is that the K&N filters need to be oiled and the Jetex dont from memory.

I have never been a fan of oiled filters, dry type is better.

Speak to Bill at Badger5 he can supply everything needed then get a heatsheild from jabbasport. Job done.

no point paying nearly £300 for this:

when you can easily make something that performs the same for less money. Dont pay a huge amount of attention to the bhp claims from compaines as these will be tests done in near perfect conditions to get the absolute best result, even if its a one off.

From past experience fitting just air filters then getting cars rolling roaded I would say is more realistic to get around 5-8 hp, but depends on the conditions the setup and the individual car.

Main reason people fit these is for the underbonnet bling factor and the noise.

My LCR performs exactly the same with the stock box and panel filter compared to an open cone filter, only difference i can notice is the noise.

I've got a green cotton open cone filter with a cold air feed, 007p dv in reverse and no bonnet lining and it doesn't really sound that loud at all, maybe if I lift off at the right time at peak boost will it be loud enough to 'turn a head' haha.

I think the biggest difference I found was removing the bonnet lining tbh, I was surprised when I changed my airbox for an open cone and could barely tell the difference in noise (before removing the lining)

An oiled filter will kill the maf in about 3 miles ;)

Isn't a bit of oil good though? my green cotton open cone has been cleaned and sprayed with oil (not excessively) 3 times in the last year and as far as I know my MAF is ok, I got 184g/s peak air flow the other night using vagcom on my standard 210 lcr

this will probably sound daft i know but i wonder what would happen if you used a blow of valve which is really loud but rather than letting it dump into the atmos fit a larger connecting pipe so it recircs back into the intake pipe. and with a open coned filter surely it would work the same as a re-circ. it may not be as loud as it could be normally but surely it would be louder than a spliter or 007p never heard a baileys so cant comment.
because im sure its the design of the output valve (trumpet) which gives it its dump valve sound. i could be completely wrong but would be intertesting to find out the results if anyone has tried it befor.

You should give greens own refurb stuff a go , its more of a wax than an oil.

As said some filters do need oiling to work and it shouldnt be an issue if theyve been oiled correctly, but if its excessive, came out poorly from the factory or oiled after cleaning it, it can cause issues

Don't think it will sound much different TBH, after all, the standard recirc valve is basically a dv with a pipe over the outlet. Plus, if you have the connecting pipe going back to the cone filter, you will have the same problem as a dv, as you still have air going 'missing', only this time it gets metered again by the MAF, so it makes the problem even worse.

Try removing the recirc pipe from the standard valve. It will be pretty loud.

Hi iv got a forge split r dump valve on my Leon and it's not load at all I did have a KN panel filter on it but now gone back to standard as i can hear dump valve better any info to improve it would b a great help thanks

Run more boost or run a pipe from it to the cabin so it goes ptisschhhhh in your face. That way you can turn off the aircon too and gain 50bhp.
