Low Oil Temp Reading??

finally got round to wiring in my oil temp gauge today, and im a little concerned that my oil temp is low

ive read it should be between 80-100 degrees C

here is a pic of as high as it goes

it didnt rise any higher than this and i was driving for a good 40mins

is it cos of the cold weather?!?

i shouldn't worry-your oil temp is dictated by the law of physics. if it's in a running car it'll be normal or high. i'd bet your gauge or part of it is shagged.

sender is in the sump plug

hopefully there is nothing wrong with the gauge or sender as they are brand new?!? :s

You generally get a colder reading in the sump.

where is the best place to take oil temp from? the oil filter housing? that blanking screw in there looked really difficult to get too

when i remove my sai i might have a go at fitting it to there

PhilW, where do u have ur sender fitted and what temps do u see?

i have same gauge mine reads about that most of time only sen it at 100 when been driving for hours and been booting it abit. i got mine in the oil hosing though.

Mines in the sump, i read its the most accurate place to have it.

Mine mostly reads 180C which is around 82F, Recently though its been around 160-65C which is 73F i put it down to the colder weather. So yours is reading pretty much the same as mine. Same gauge too.

Mines the same setup and readings as benny.

Sump is most accurate as thats where your pick up is taking the oil from too, normally reads that low unless pushing it, don't think I ever saw over 110 on the road, track was about 115 / 120 at the most.

Oil starts to break down past those temps.
