Hi!

Normally I run with the stock airfilterbox and a pipercross panel filter. But yesterday I decided to run with my newly cleaned bmc cda sp-12(Cut down so it fits like a sp-09).

However the car feels much smoother in power delivery and really feels "fresh" with the BMC CDA.
I logged it as I thought this would be making some good figures.

But, 192 g/s over MAF as MAX on Revo Stage 2, whats up with that!! Normally it logs 205+

To be "fair" it's two different MAF's, but the other setup is just so "good" that I dont want to seperate the "kit"... LOL

However, cant really understand why the car feels sooo much better??

It have nothing to do with the sound, it genuinely feels better on the throttle and trough the gears and feels like it drags the air in more freely above 4500rpm

Ohhh I forgot something, it's not in same gear... hmm....

May'be it could be something with the load in 3rd vs 4th gear that makes the difference... I'll have a new log soon with 4.th gear instead, until then, i'd be happy to hear some explanations )

Could be. Are you sure it's the change in air filter that has made a difference in the 'feel'? Not disconnected the battery or throttle body reset or something?

On a side note, have you tried an open cone filter? Your MAF figures seem low with what I perceive as restrictive filters. I have a Jetex open cone on Revo 2 and I consistently see more than 220g/s.

Wow! 220 is alot!! I've tried a HKS foam filter with about the same amount(205g/s), but I suspected it dragging too much heat from the engine and didnt like the filtration or lack of.

The throttle body / ec u have not been reset in between the filter changes.

Wow! 220 is alot!!

That's what my tuner said when he logged it! :D

I do have a heat shield around it and a dedicated air feed, so it seems to work well.

Give the Jetex a go as your mods are very similar to mine from what I can see, and both the above filters you are using might be holding it back.

Doesn't really answer your question about it feeling better though.

Well, I'd like to hear more about people flowing that much with a k04-023, as it seems alot! I run B9T4 at the moment and thats 1,45 BAR

This was my HKS setup:

Cant really see that a fourth filter could do a different job, as a HKS is somewhat the closes you can get to not using a filter... LOL

Well, has to log it a couple of times more, if it still logs that low, i'll try and swap the MAF's

BMC can't hack it under high load flow situations. As recommended get a decent Jetex air filter with a dedicated high pressure cold airfeed aimed at it side on and i'll guarantee you 215g/sec as its 300 bhp rated as opposed to the bmc which struggles past 200 bhp.

I begin to see a pattern here about the BMC CDA, but as long as the HKS reloaded still flowed same amount, I think the difference is in the MAF. (Have to test it before I spend more money on filters)

I dont believe a Jetx can flow more than a foam HKS reloaded.

That said, does anyone have a direct link to the actual jetex filter?

Get a new MAF or borrow someone else's that work to test the filters.

I've heard some interesting rumours about the HKS filter too, in that it is not great at filtering everything, so crap still gets in your engine. I've no idea how true this is though.

The top two are the big Jetex http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/conefilters.php?insided=80mm

If only I got commission for recommending these filters...

:)

But I have two different MAF at the moment? One in the stock box, and one for the HKS/BMC.

I see the HKS as close as NOT using a filter, therefore I dont see anything can "out-perform" it, regarding the filtration, it sucks, but that not what i'm inetrested in right now.

I'm currently running 264g/sec on my k04 hybrid ? Its still a k04 at the end of the day. The ability of an air filter to flow is largely dependant on its cross sectional area, the hks looks too small and made of foam. Just because the japs run them means very little to me i'm afraid. By relocating a jetex filter tight to the wing and giving it a direct cold air feed will improve performance. None of the induction kits on the market are up to scratch for the 1.8T. I only get the figures i do by upgading my TIP pipework, using a good filter suitably located with huge amounts of cold air. if i go back to stock tip and air box my figures and performance drops massively.

Yeah thats also impressive figures! Might be looking for a last shot for filter!
What is the exact model? Pictures of the setup?

BMC is one to avoid.. you seen the filter size in there? tiny.. no where near big enough

I saw a 15g/s improvement on an S3 when I removed the crappy BMC and fitted an 80mm Jetex cone earlier this year. Drove much better, response etc improved.. (same MAF)
