I've had my Engine Fault code read as a 16485 Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70).

Am I correct in assuming this is the sensor linking to the pipe coming from the air filter to the back right hand side of the engine.

Car is a 2004 Seat Ibiza FR.

I've had the car chipped for over 2 years, and recently (2 months) had the FMIC fitted. I've done some searching and I want to confirm this is the MAF in question and not one which is linked to the Intercooler (no idea where this would be anyway).

Car itself drives fine, since having the FMIC (well 1-2 weeks after anyway) I've noticed increased black smoke from the exhaust. The management light came on about a month ago, stayed for a week and went away only to come back a week later. Got it read, got it reset and it came back within about 3 miles of driving.

From what I can gather Seat replace the MAF and trunking (take out the segment of piping from air intake) whereas surly it would be cheaper to just replace the sensor feeding into the pipe to detect the air flow.

I can't open the pipe work as I don't have any 5 Star Torx Security T25 tools. I want to find a part number (I under stand Bosch do a part)

Advice on confirming the part and sourcing the part? My local Seat Garage is useless and never ever phone me back on parts inquiries (never have never will). Had a quote from a garage of £135 for parts and labour (half hour) I think thats £37 alone! I'm sure its an easy bolt out bolt in job. Just I'll need to buy the tools and do the job. Got a price from Sere for £85 but need to post the old unit back as well.

Only MAF I've found is on EuroCarParts - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/S...f58b3dff39c7366c41cfe587d32838660b365d82&AFME

Thanks guys

yeah its probably the maf thats gone..the sensor comes with the maf tube as a whole unit( almost certain)..simple diy change..

Thanks,

The light has gone off again so I'm going to try the MAF cleaning advice I've found online as it seems to be an intermittent fault.
