...is becoming more and more of a crap combination

I was always a fan of "manual" mode, but now it's becoming more of a necessity than an option.

Surely it shouldn't be doing 30mph in 5th.
80% of the time in town driving, the car is running at just over 1000rpm in some stupid gear.

Anybody else finding this?

In s mode I'd probably be in 4th or 5th I havent tried, but like shnazzle I'm more inclined to use manual aswell which is why I want to get the DSG remapped

It's not bad enough for me to want to spend another 400 mapping the DSG. But it is a pain like.

I reckon it can cause some damage and all. In D (or S) you need to be able to put your foot down (i don't mean plant it) whenever.

If I put my foot down in 6th at 1100 rpm, even if it kicks down to 4th or so after a second, it's still a second where the gearbox is taking over 300lb/ft of torque on a too high gear. Bad.

I understand what you mean but if you want to put your foot down to overtake for example you can always over ride the system and change down before accelerating

I like the idea of mapping the DSG, I wish it didn't kickdown in manual, I believe mapping stops this, I find it quite a chilled out drive with the DSG though

Mapping does yeah stops kickdown and also early up change so effectively puts you in full control which is why I like using manual more so with a map

Aye I still love the DSG on fast 40 roads, single/dual carriageways, and motorways. It's perfect when the car had no choice but to be in 2000ish RPMs.

Maybe once the MR2 is sorted and the Leon is lowered I can think about saving for a DSG remap

Don't worry shnazzle I'm in the same boat but as soon as I can afford it ill let you know the effects and benefits/drawback unless someone on here already has had it done

Cool. I like a guinea pig. :)

I guess the only drawback is that your safeties are gone. So you push the gearbox too far, there's nothing to protect it and it will break.

The only time I really intend to push it would be on a track day but otherwise it'd just give me more control as being 30 :( next month, lol, my boy racer days are long behind me

I must admit had it the other day when some one in a green 1.2fr pulled up next to me and tried to race me off the line but soon had his missus laughing at him :D

Oh aye. In the spirit of DSG and lots torque (this topic): it never bores me to totally out-pull "fast" cars off the line. Especially when they swerve to get onto the right lane in a bid to get passed me when that light turns green. By the time I hit the speed limit...boyo is nowhere to be seen until he flies past at stupid speed in a bid to regain his manliness.
Kids....

Yeah lol, a mate at work has a 2.0 A3 with 200bhp and wanted a race after work so we went to a bit of private land where we both lined up floored it and left him pretty much standing now ill be the first to admit 150bhp in 14-1500kg ain't that fast so now he has a major headache thinking his cars knackered and on its way out, be worse when I get stage 1

whats wrong with being in 6th at 30??? i dont understand why its an issue?

It really seems to struggle with it. It's more because when you're in a 30 zone, you don't just drive 30-35. You have to slow down a bit, speed up , etc etc.
and in D, if I'm tootling along at 30 in 6th and I want to overtake a bus or something, I put my foot down to accelerate quickly...but it still tries to accelerate in 6th which makes a deep uncomfortable noise like its struggling.

My old TFSI would instantly kick down to 4th. Or be in 5th in the first place.
