Hi guys,

We are currently looking at our car options for what were going to buy next year. So far we have it down to Audi S3, Focus RS, Seat Leon Cupra R.

I like the power of the RS, grip of the S3 and the looks of the Cupra R's including the interior.

One thing I'm bothered about is that they don't appear to comewith the Cupra body kit??? Could someone explain the different body kits available from Seat. I want to keep the twin tail pipes.

Also, what are the tuning options for the Cupra Rs? We're coming from a Vauxhall Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition so the standard performance should be similar.

Cheers,
Chris.

Cheers mate. What's it like to drive? Does it sound good or does the exhaust need replacing?

it's awesome matey got it on the 01/09 i've done 1100miles mainly a & b roads from north-west to london - i can't fault it (n i'm a picky, anal little ****er at times!)
personally i think the exhaust sounds f***in fab, wasn't too sure when i first got but it's very addictive n turns heads a plenty! so if it was me, i wouldn't change it.
i've driven a fair few fast cars - but this goes like stink. n in real world driving there isn't a lot in the 3 you've narrowed down.
which ever you chose mucker - you wont be disappointed :)

How does it handle the corners not having an LSD and being a pretty tall car? Do you get a lot of roll?

Also, I can only find a few for sale across the whole country. Are they that rare?

to be fair, i only ran it in prooooooperly 200miles ago n i haven't rag ragged it ....... yet, but that hasn't stopped me abusing the r'abouts n back roads etc. it handles brilliantly n the ESP i haven't been aware of on front wheels. body roll is less than my previous 2 cars (FR n gti golf) but the the R sits on 19" wheels n a chunky 233mm so is pretty grounded.
they only make 500 a year matey so you wont catch many - but you can buy mine in 35months if ye like :p

I've not seen one cupra r in my area, but lots of K1's and cupra's

Yeah I see a lot of the K1s. I'm not a massive fan of the central exhaust though in my personal opinions, looks like the cars having a poop!

What's the difference in spec apart from the body kit?

The Leon Cupra R has 265ps(261 bhp) standard. It shares the same inter cooler as the Audi s3 unlike the Cupra. The Cupra runs 240ps (236bhp). The Facelift Leon Cupra/R has an XDS (an electronic diff) with just a remap it will see 310-320 bhp

Its the single central exhaust I don't like. I love the twin on the Cupra Rs.

When was the facelift? I'm looking at buying a 10 plate in my budget (19k)

I will be looking to tune in the future so if it already has an uprated intercooler then that's a bonus. What's the exhaust and down pipe, 2.75'?

I'm almost certain the standard diameter is 2.5 ". The car is capable of 380bhp once tuned. Focus rs's don't make 300 bhp on reputable rollers standard. The s3 is a good option with the Quattro setup but doesn't look as good in my opinion

19k is the max that I can spend. Don't forget I'm going to have to fork out atleast 1k to have the bodykit fitted. You reckon I should be able to get a good example of a used one for 18k then?

My minimum requirments are

Xenons
SatNav
BodyKit
Leather
Cruise Control (I have a very heavy foot)

Not sure what else kit could be added that would make a difference. Any recommendations?

I have looked at tuning for the RSs but they're already that heavily tuned you can't go much further without spending a lot of wonga. I agree about the S3 being a very good motor but it is too subtle for my liking.

Don't worry about facelift - the Cupra R came out after all Leons were facelifted. The only thing they've changed since 2010 are the rear lights (2012 models) and the Sat Nav if you buy one with the tech pack option - somebody feel free to correct me please.

If £19k is your budget then you'll get one newer than 2010 and with very little miles. As another poster has mentioned, they make 500 per year (still not sure if this is UK or Europe wide).

Handling wise, great out of the box but put some sportlines on and a WALK kit and she gets better again. As for been a tall car, i think that is deceiving, i'm barely 6ft tall and i'm head and shoulders above the roof of my car now she's on the new springs.

I was in the same predicament as you only 4 months ago (i also included the Meg250) and the Cupra R won - power, economy (well, in comparison), looks and that drop dead gorgeous interior won it for me.

Do you really need a bodykit? No need to change the ass of the car other than add some mud flaps, a set of skirts from Seat and the Triple R splitter (when it's available)....

Everything else you've listed will come on a car with Tech pack (and more).
