SEAT Media System 2.1

Hello, I’m new to this forum and this is my first post. I’m glad I found this thread from Google as it prevented me starting a new one on this subject which would have read:

“I have bought a new Leon Cupra R and have a question that this forum could probably help with regarding Secure Digital (SD & SDHC Card) compatibility with the SEAT Media System 2.1. I have a new 16Gb SanDisk SDHC Class4 card formatted to the recommended FAT32 and loaded with mp3s but the unit displays ‘Error: SD Card’ when inserted although it is read by a laptop ok. I have another SanDisk 1Gb SD (Not HC) that works ok, has anyone had a similar issue with the larger capacity SDHC cards? The manual suggests the unit is compatible with SDHC cards up to 32Gb.”

However, since reading this thread I tried something posted by ‘Al’ who said that his cards read ok after the car had warmed-up. I tried the card (cold) this morning with no joy, I just tried it after a 10 mile trip and it worked, so now just waiting to see if it’ll work after a cold night. If it fails tomorrow without disturbing the card then it seems there’s a temperature sensitive component/contact affecting the reading of SDHC cards!

Well, switched on the media player this morning, left the 16Gb SDHC undisturbed in the slot, radio came on, pressed media button and message was "No Media Available". Next step is to take the car out and see if it recognises the card later.

I've given up trying to find a second card that works now. :(

Luckily, the one card (out of about 10 I've tried) that works flawlessly for me is 32GB so I've fitted all of the music I want in the car onto it. I'm using a 16GB Lacie Moskeyto in the USB slot for my comedy and spoken word stuff. Works really well actually as I can do global shuffle ('mix all') on either comedy or music and still keep them separate from each other. :)

I'm still in two minds whether to even attempt a warranty fix for the dodgy slot. It seems a very widespread problem judging by reports on this forum, although the details vary - I haven't personally found that it makes any difference if the car/stereo is warm or cold for instance.

If it becomes clear eventually that a subsequent revision of the MS2.1 fixed the slot, then I'll talk to my dealer about it then I think.

I reformatted mine last night and this morning, as usual, after 10 minutes and a build up of heat, low and behold, it starts working with no issues.

So much for a £700 single option or £1500 option as part of the tech pack. It sucks :(

Have not experienced any problems on cold mornings or otherwise. Occasionally comes up with loading SD card for a second of so, but thats it.

Just a thought, but would the direction of the heater left overnight, feet, screen, etc have an effect?

Given up on SD Slot

Now totally confused  I haven't disturbed the SDHC card since it worked and now the MDI message is "SD Card Faulty" which it isn't. Now going with USB stick for music but might invest in iPod dock & cable when I next visit the dealer. SD card is just too random!

Was there ever a fix for this issue?

Tried using a 16GB SD card for music in mine the other day and got the error message that others have had on here, strangely as mentioned here after about 5 minutes of running the car I took the card out and put it back in and it worked straight away

Just wondering if there was a software revision that sorted this out or if it's still just "one of those things"

I tried warming the SD card today because it failed as soon as I started the car, made no difference though :( it does seem to need to "Warm up" the unit before it reads the card I have, it's very very strange.

Think I might speak to the dealers when I take my car in to the have the bonnet liner replaced and fixed.
