Ive been given the chance to buy some merc alloys in 18" 5x112 stud pattern.

As far as I can figure out the 5x112 is correct but what sort of offset should I be looking for for the Altea? 54 TDI sport if theres any diffrence between trims.

Wheel width is also part of the equation.

8"x18" ET45 is about the limit if your not wanting the front wheels to push outside of the arches at the top.

BTW offset on most Seat Altea Wheels is ET54 (yes very high)

no problem. as longer as you stay approx 8" wide and no lower than 45 you should not have any probs. all 18" Seat Sport BBS wheels are afaik ET51 7.5" There are a number of threads on the Mk2 Leon forum here as well about wheel combos. and also on a German forum here:
