Hi Guys wonder if you can help me, trying to upgrade to a MFSW in my Seat Altea, read quite a few 'how to's' on the VW sites, has anybody had any joy here??

These are the modules I did / have fitted

1K0 953 549 BC steering wheel control module, upgraded this to a 1K0 953 549 BD

1K0 959 653 C this i think is good to stay as it is

also replaced the airbag wiring loom, got that new from a dealer

Also changed my steering wheel control info via vagcom from 0000042 to 0003042

Problem I have is, the horn doesnt work, the buttons do not work nor do they even light up.

I have checked all my wiring and checked the control module pins arent bent but nada.

I have seen two different types of button assemblies, my new wheel has the two sets of buttons with a ribbon cable joining the buttons at the top and a flying lead to the bottom of the wheel,

The other type of wheel I have seen has the two sets of buttons going to a block at the bottom of the wheel, these have the ribbon cables from both button sets,

would this make any difference???

Any help you can give would be great,

Thanks

Try coding 0002042 instead - do you have cruise?

If you don't even have illuminated buttons, then the problem has to be the loom - can you double check it is 100% home and when you push the airbag on it is not infringing on it?
If you put your old loom back in and the horn works then it narrows it down even more.

I know VAG changed the airbag loom around 2008, if your car is before this and the wheel is from a car newer than that then you maybe a problem. If I recall the giveaway was one had 1 airbag igniter, the other had 2 igniters.

Hi Skard,

good to hear from you again mate, (my MFD looks great BTW thx again)

Okay back to the MFSW

So yeap tried the code 0002042 and 0003042, neither work, i even tried 0000042 (original setting) and 0001042 both of these make the horn blow constant.

Yes i do have cruise control.

my car is a 2007 Altea XL,
the airbag has only 1 igniter, looms much the same, obviously more wires on the new loom,

here is a link to the back of the airbag loom, top pic is new loom bottom is old loom

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6izbAo2JZjkeG9BdmVSTHpjQTQ/edit?usp=sharing

old loom (top picture)
top two wires (black and white) are for the horn I guess,
bottom two wires in the socket (blue and brown) are for the air bag,

New loom (bottom picture)
bottom wires are the same (airbag)
white is in the same slot, black now goes to the MFSW plug, plus you also have blue (with small grey stripe) and another brown, these also go to the MFSW, black cable also goes to MFSW and not the yellow plug anymore.

The only other thing that I need to confirm is the buttons and how they connect, from what I have seen there are two methods

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-IBIZ...rts_SM&fits=Car+Make:Seat&hash=item565261e0f8

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Leon...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ec6359ccb

I am wondering if this different connection within the wheel could be my issue?

Thx for looking again mate

Dave

Hello mate

Good you are enoying the clocks, massive difference it makes!

In regard to your MFSW, I have a 2007 too and the style of buttons is the same as the Leon one linked above (looms run to bottom). This is also true in both mk5's I've had, and as you know they share the same modules etc. My current car has a BD SWCM.

If you have the configuration of the Ibiza wheel in the link then this is probably wrong and the reason why?

Your coding, once the setup is right, should be 0002042.

Cheers

Cheers Skard you are a top man!!

I too have the BD SWCM in hand, I read on some forums that the Leon style buttons as above may vary for specific years, how true this is I don't know.

This is gonna sound really cheeky and you can tell me where to go if you like, any chance you can look at your buttons and confirm the part number(s). Not sure if the P/N is on the button area or on the bottom connecting block. Reason I ask is you have a 2007 as do I and our SWCM match too,

Cheers mate owe you a pint or 10 for all your help ere
