missing icons & imoticons?

is there a forum problem (or local)

this morning many icons and imoticons are not shown or have red x's

browser flashes on some pages and shut down completely earlier whilst mid pm reply.

anyone else got this?
was fine yesterday. (not rebooted this machine since then)
