drove my car 40 mile yesterday back from derby and was perfect, jumped in it this morning to go to work and no reverse,i just though it was cos it was cold,so rolled it back off drive put it into first let out clutch and nothing, put it into 2nd and let out clutch and nothing,3rd,4th,5th and 6th are fine,it just wont go into reverse and feels really loose when attempting 1st and second but doesn't engage any gear,i've had a look and cant see any obvious faults, will the alignment sort it out or is the problem deeper, there was no warning of this at all no thunk, bang, click nothing one minute sweet, next shagged....Help Me!!!:help:its 1 mk1 leon cupra, facelift 03 model, auq 180

dont know much about the gearboxes on these mate but do the linkages in the engine bay look alright? think they are down by the battery.

I had problems getting reverse after a few days doing the short shift mod and it was because the rubber bush on forward and back linkage was all torn up. Just made my own out of a stiffer rubber bush I had lying around and some big flat washers. Just check the two linkage bushes on top of the gearbox. If there fine them i'm not sure what it could be mate.

Sounds like a 1st/2nd selector fork to me mate.... sorry to be the bearer of bad new's.

I had this just before Christmas. With those exact symptoms ( i also have an 03 AUQ Leon Cupra).... )was reverse getting difficult to get in before 1st and 2nd went?

You'll need to find a local gearbox repair center or get a new gearbox by the way. It's a common fault in the AUQ engine around that year. The 1st and 2nd gear selector fork is riveted in and the rivet works loose, the repair is to get a new selector fork and bolt it in place. For reference i was looking at about £100- for the part and £300 labour. :(

Hope you get it sorted mate, i know how much of a pain it is.

Yeah reverse has been a bit rough when cold for a while that's why i thought it was just cos it was cold, tried the gearbox alignment technique and wouldn't work so looks like its gearbox out time, been quoted £375 for the job if i take the box out or £575 if they take it out, bummer thats £400 i could do without spending, there are a couple for sale on here i don't know whether to take my chances on one of those,at least if i get the mod done to mine it shouldn't happen again if its properly bolted...

It's the better option to get it refurbished i think mate, then you know it's done. Your call at the end of the day though, try and get a reputable company to do it though. Let us know how you get on.
