Guys, i am looking at a car (literally now lol) and it needs a cambelt service.

Can anyone give me an idea on cost so i can use it in my 'negotiations' please?

Thanks

Ask dave in the sere motors thread, he would give you the best price for parts. Cambelt change from dealers is around £299 but I got mine done from a local garage but got my own parts and in total came to £175. Another local garage quoted me £250 with parts.

But yours is an FR lol so might be different, not sure

I think if you allow £400 for cambelt change and waterpump you wont be far wrong.
How old is the car? The cambelt should be changed at 4 years or 60k miles whichever comes sooner.

07 plate with 58k on the clock.
Went for it, and got a bit of a bargain i think.

£5450 after stressing how important the cambelt and waterpump change was and how off putting not having it done would be to other potential buyers.

Plus £500 for full service = FR with 58k for <£6k!!

Fixed price for cambelt for Seat over 3 years is £299, at a dealer. Waterpump will be more, obviously.

This really isn't that good a deal as I got cambelt with waterpump done for the £299 at a dealer before it came in.

I assume it's a petrol FR?

Just spoken with colliers seat at acocks green
Service £249
Cambelt £299
Waterpump (if they believe needed) £150 roughly
Total = £698.......

That sound excessive?

ouch!
firstly, are you buying the Leon from a dealer? i picked up my 07, with 17k on the clock, cambelt due - they did it in with the service, in with the price the car was advertised for.

i charged my mate, PD170 £197 for cambelt, tensioner and water pump - fitted.
price would be the same for a tfsi model. big profit in cambelts and water pumps.

I'd get a price for the car without the work done, then give them the "Fix the cambelt and waterpump in with the price and I'll sign the papers today" line.

That's too cheap, unless it's mates rates?

Plus if you take that logic with the water pump, why didn't you with the cambelt ;)
