Hi everybody,

Been on for a while now, had the car on the road since April felt it was time for a readers ride.

Anyway I'm sure most of you know the car i bought from Suj on here back in November 2010. I bought it with out the bbs that were on it so had to rapidly fins some wheels, a friend came through, coincidentally, and lent me his mk3 cupra wheels and with tax issues to sort and the selling of my previous car to happen before i could get this on the road it stayed like this till early 2011.

Then my mate needed his wheels back but had a set of 17" Avez A's i could borrow these were pretty cool and we all discussed me running them but they had pretty aggressive offset and even moving it on the drive caused rubbing and i couldnt get it out the drive.

I had planned on slowly making my way through all the stuff that needed doing to get it on the road however out of the blue my old car sold so i took it to my mechanic to finish off what i hadn't managed to do.

There was quite a lot to get done and it needed to be done quickly. I had discovered that someone had cut through both abs wires which meant that the wiring had to be stripped back into the car to the next join and replaced so that there wasnt a nasty join inside the arch. Whilst i was down there i also discovered that both cv boots were shot to pieces so these were replaced the rear brake hoses and the handbrake cables were all needing to be replaced. The cambelt was gone as were all the other belts so these were replaced as a full belt kit before it was too late. whilst the cv boots were being done it was discovered the wheel bearing and actual hub was gone one side so this whole set up was replaced as well. Then just to finish it off it was given a full major service all new liquids and filters and a new set of plugs.

Then it was MOT time and it wasnt gonna pass on the 17's so i had to quickly find some wheels... So i found these

16x8 et 38 all round ACS or something like that, off a BMW apparently. Obviously red and orange isnt a great look so i set about refurbing them myself as i couldnt afford a strip and powdercoat.

So it was off to MOT and it failed on emissions so the exhaust had to be adjusted and welded to get it through.

Then it was a trip to my local DVLA office and several queuing hours later it was officially on the road.

When i got the car the engine bay was pretty filthy so whilst it was getting mot'd i had the guys steam clean the bay, made a huge difference.

Then it was my birthday and i was fed up of the rear wheels being completely lost in the arches and the front wheels scrubbing on the coilovers so i got some spacers from birthday santa. 17mm on the back and 3 mm on the front

The stereo electrics were a bit of a nightmare and as i dont get car electrics at all i popped round my mates house who sorted it all out in an evening.

then a few days later i got my first 40.0 reading on the mpg computer i was well chuffed. have since seen as high as 47 lol.

Then i just spent ages enjoying driving it its the first proper fast car i ve owned so its been a blast. then you may have noticed front he pics the front was pretty high as the garage had to raise it to get it on the ramp and i took a while to get it back down.

Then one day i was driving into town and my rear spacer came loose and my wheel nearly fell off

Next it was the dreaded pedal box.

got a new one welded it up and replaced the clutch cable at the same time.

Not an easy job..

FxCam_1312023988067.jpg

Then it began to judder and falter under certain revs, turned out dizzy cap and leads were completely knackered so they got replaced.
Windscreen wipers were next the supposed aero wipers that wer on it were too long so the arms had been adjusted up so they sat acroos most of the screen i fitted new standard ones and tucked them right back down the bottom.

most recent pics here.

Good to see the car still on the forum!! :D.

As Phil says, you have done an awesome job on the wheels and I love the way that they are spaced out etc.

Look forward to seeing this car progress. I hope that you dont have to sell though.

Good work dude

Heard you got wheels off my mate Joel aswell? lol hehehe

Heard you got to sell it as well, same reason as me, too many miles :(
It can be good on fuel if drive sensibly, but realistically I can drive like a prat and get 50+mpg in the diesel, so fully understand.

You have done it alot of justice mate, if I kept it would of done similar bits mate, if you do keep it, keep it up

Just to refresh this so it doesn't die completely I never sold this and I stil have it no major progress I've mainly been working on it just to keep it on the road it the first car where i have done most of the work my self with help for the father. Money is still very tight and i keep getting told to get rid but the more effort i put into keeping it alive the more i want to keep her. So I'm think about getting a 200 quid beater and making this a proper project car. Progress would be very slow tho as it would be kept at my parents three and half hours from me and money as i said basically doesn't exist lol.
