Afternoon all,

Just got back after a trip to work and back, 88 miles round trip now I reset my average mpg thing on number 2 which is the one that stays after the engine has been off for a while...

Now today on purpose I drove like an old old person (which can actually change gear when needed) to see what mpg I could get, Sunday being the closest to a normal work day due to the usual drivers lol

So I get home and checked the stats and my trip says 29.4mpg now that's me driving with one steady overtake on a dual carrige way... Am I some sort of rubbish driver or is this car never meant to reach the nice 30mpg lol My journey is mixture of towns, dual carraige ways and single lane stuff so abit of everything...

What's everyone else getting?

None of these 60mpg people are welcome haha

Cheers

Hi,

Got a 2.0 TFSI 09 reg but with Bluefin stage 1 and I get 33 on motorways doing 80-85 but this drops to low 20's round town. I use Tesco 99 ron most the time. IIRC before Bluefin I only just managed 30 mpg on looong motorway drives.

Alex

Mines completley stock at the minute and I also use Tesco Momentum 99 stuff...

What HP did you get from your Bluefin may I ask? was it worth £365?

Cheers

Well I had a FR Tfsi before and in the warmer weather the car returned approx 32 mpg on a work commute doing 80ish during the colder weather it was always 28mpg
My R won't go above 29mpg in warm weather and is sitting on 26mpg in the colder months.
These engines done really do much above 30 mpg.
That's my opinion after 2 cars over 5 years of ownership and approx 55000 miles.

I'm sure someone will be here soon saying they get 75 mpg or 48 mpg sitting at 100 mph!
Think your seeing the norm mate which will be slightly worse with the colder temps

Cheers for your reply :)

Indeed it does seem to be the norm, I don't really ever stay on motorways or dual carriage ways near me as I am in the sticks... just thought I would ask about lol

I did 75 miles yesterday including about 20 miles of 50mph (M25 ave speed zone) the rest was what i would call normal motorway driving 80mph ish, and a little brisk acceleration on A24. My trip was showing 32.6mpg Ave.

Mines a pre facelift '08'

Do you have Stage 1 re-map as well or just standard? Motorway driving definitely gets that mpg up!

I do a round trip of about 90 miles per day which is similar. My car had stage 1 revo set up and returns Around 33-35 average with about 350 to a tank. It only runs on tesco 99. If my wife uses it to work which is around 4 miles away she gets 30mpg through town so I can't complain. Obviously if you open up the taps on a short journey you can see frightening numbers but that's the same for any car.

Indeed, I mean I cannot grumble my last car was a 1.8 crap box and that only got about 310 miles to a tank and it had 10 more litres than the Leon so it's win win really...

I must get this Stage 1 sorted soonish!

Cheers Guys

not trying to be funny.

i have a 2006 fr tfsi petrol.

now when i'm up for work no one else is. 4 oclock in the morning so the roads are clear, lights are all on green and its a pretty much straight road for a few miles but i'm getting.

36 mpg
33 even if i'm not trying and just driving.
ive seen 38 once but it was hard

the differance on the way home though is mental.

around 29
26 to low 24 if i'm booting it

this is all normal roads, no dual thingy ways or motorways

i get between 6-10mpg in rush hour work traffic - so i walk.
driving around town i get 17-22mpg
on a long run, 24-28mpg, but to be fair i dont go much under 100mph on motorways.

i have seen 33 a few times on long distance and 25 around town, so its easily do able. i just choose not to.

I can achieve 33/34 easily on a daily basis but its not very fun, just Stay under 3000rpm. But with mixed driving 50% sporty and 50% sensible I get 29/30. If your really heavy footed it drops to 23... But I live in the country so roads are quieter

Mine over the last 2500 miles, on trip no. 2, has an average of 27.4 mpg. Whilst this won't be that accurate this is with driving in a spirited fashion where allowed, every day. If you're driving off the turbo you should be well over 30mpg. Due a service/filter change soon?

In reality, when tonking it on the roads you get about 250 miles to a tank. 'Normal' driving gives about 300. Being careful yields 350. This is what mines has done for all of its 67k life so far... This is with Revo Stg 1, btw.

Hmmm I averaged 46.7mpg today around the doors............oh wait dirty diesel lol

I'm considering px'ing into the petrol FR variant, and only because I'm used to the good mpg of the diesel I'm having second thoughts, maybe just a step up into a face lift fr diesel with a stage 1 map is the way to go.easiest on my pocket anyways

But surely if seat claim 37mpg it must be obtainable, do you use cruise control around the doors? What gear can you maintain 30mph in?

I was waiting for the first dirty diesel lol 30hp more on the 170 diesel and your up to me...

I'm sure they claim something silly for every car that just does motorway driving all day and no town... I'm normally in 4th at 30mph if I'm being a good boy lol

I get around 31mpg around town with DSG missus drives it 90% of the time

Do you think the dsg is a pro or con when it comes to achieving manufacturers claimed mpg

I've seen a nice red one on autotrader with dsg and nav plus it's the fl model, only problem is the low ball px value for mine.

Iv found the wife tends to drive around in 4th doing 30mph and only getting 36mpg, where ill use 5th or 6th depending on terrain/traffic, I think the dsg would keep her in the right gear

I wouldn't trust any manufacturers mpg figures at all.
I vaguely remember a campaign awhile ago concerning this, as the manufacturers get these figures using a test bed in an enclosed building, not out in the open road.

On my run to work i avg approx 38mpg, but this is dual carriageway most of the way and pootle at 60mph. It is the A1 after all.
On the way home this drops to about 32 due to the increase in stationary traffic.
I have managed to hit 40 before on a run into work, but this was during the summer and i was so bored by the time i got to work i was almost asleep.
