Do you think the dsg is a pro or con when it comes to achieving manufacturers claimed mpg

I've seen a nice red one on autotrader with dsg and nav plus it's the fl model, only problem is the low ball px value for mine.

Iv found the wife tends to drive around in 4th doing 30mph and only getting 36mpg, where ill use 5th or 6th depending on terrain/traffic, I think the dsg would keep her in the right gear

You may be surprised what you get offered for yours, I was offered a substantial amount over book price 2 weeks ago. FRs sell pretty quickly and if yours is in good nick and can be turned around without any effort dealers like to have them.

Mines completley stock at the minute and I also use Tesco Momentum 99 stuff...

What HP did you get from your Bluefin may I ask? was it worth £365?

Cheers

Sorry for the delay, I've not had it on a dyno but Bluefin quote approx 240 bhp and it was a very noticeable difference when the map went on. Would really recommend it plus the Bluefin handset is a bonus as can then return car to stock as needed.

Are you running on stock software?
If you wan the absolute best engine efficiency you should use the correct fuel for your tuning.

Cruise Control at 60mph on the motorway and I can get 40mpg+ if the journey's over 60 miles.

Around town (where I live doesn't get massive queues, but there are many roundabouts) I get 24-28 on my 5 mile commute.

The best I ever get is 42-43 mpg, the worst is 25-30. '06 FR TFSI.

The important factors are:

1. Speed. The optimum speed seems really low- from what I can tell, pretty much once you're into 6th at about 40mph that's the best mpg spot. On slow roads like the A420 where there's a 50 mph limit and a lot of slow people with no overtaking opportunities for a long way you can easily be doing around 50mpg if you just chug along in 6th. Bloody dull though...

2. Braking. Whether its cos of bad traffic/lights/whatever, if you're having to brake then you're wasting a lot of energy. If you have to then fine, but looking well ahead and planning can make a big difference (e.g slowing down in gear as you approach roundabouts).

3. Weather. I consistently find I get worse mpg in winter than summer. I guess the engine is colder and for longer, plus traffic is often worse in winter (not school holidays etc). Going to work in the summar 40mpg is feasible, in winter I struggle to get to 30. Big difference.

Tbh I'm not sure why people have bought the FR instead of the Cupra unless it's for Insurance purposes ? Because they are so close on mpg , my Cupra mpg stats are pretty much the same as you FR guys but we have have more power ,
So if anyone is thinking about mpg when they are looking to buy an FR I would say if you can afford a Cupra then buy one.

My reason was cost second hand. An 18 month old fr was a good 3-4 grand cheaper. Then stage 1 the fr and ur up to cupra lvl with lower initial outlay.

I do a round trip of about 90 miles per day which is similar. My car had stage 1 revo set up and returns Around 33-35 average with about 350 to a tank. It only runs on tesco 99. If my wife uses it to work which is around 4 miles away she gets 30mpg through town so I can't complain. Obviously if you open up the taps on a short journey you can see frightening numbers but that's the same for any car.

I'm amazed you didn't get a TDI, I drive from Caldicot to Bridgend every day which is about 85 miles a day and my LCR got around 36mpg (Mark 1 LCR) that had nearly 300bhp. I'm amazed that you guys get late 20's
