mk4 FR problems

got an ibiza fr running standard map at the min,

got a decat and cat back miltek,

cars been behaving today then tonight on the way hme, coming off the roundabout accelerated and nothing, no boost!!!

cars bellowing black smoke and is hesitating and surge hesitate surge and feels like it just wants to stall,

got it hme opened bonnet and nothing look out of place but when you rev it it sounds rattly,

also the climate stoped providing the fans at the same time and its as though the accelerator is providing the fans as i was accelerating the interior fans sped up then slowed down when i backed off, any advice,

is it the engine blown, turbo, or turbo pipes

From what you describe sounds like its a pipe that has blown off. Have a look at the ones around the intercooler... these are the most susceptible to pop.

will have a look is it a bumper off job or easy to get to, also had my scanguage on it and no codes coming up

it depends what pipe it is. You might be able to get away with just taking the engine undertray thing off and having a look up through the engine. When my pipe blew it was a vertical one by the intercooler. I managed to sort it with the bumper on but you may be unlucky and it could be a lower one!

cheers for the advice, soonest i can get get a glimpse is in the morning when i can get it on a ramp,

hope it is just a pipe though dont fancy paying for a new turbo

just another bit of info, just been out and started it up, sounds fine and i can hear the turbo spooling, but im guessing under load it will bellow out the smoke, i hope to god its just a pipe thats blown off

Sounds like a blown hose mate - I had the same when I blew the 90 degree hose from the bottom of the IC.

If you're lucky you might not have to take the bumper off

well got it all stripped down and it had blown the top hose off but it broke the clip and the intercooler connection as it came off so ive had to bodge it till i can get it into seat no high boost antics for me now managed 67mpg having to drive slow off boost

Good to here its only a pipe. My one sheared one of the lugs on the pipe so wouldn't snap in place. All fixed by a new pipe though.

new intercooler and clip will be needed i think a trip to seat for the cooler and clip to be replaced is in order

Let me know what they quote you. If it's high then could be the perfect incentive to get a front mount intercooler. Or even if you want, you could buy my SMIC off me. I recently changed to a FMIC and have it laying in the shed

well im hoping it will be a warranty job, rung them today and booked it in for next tuesday

told them a few other problems it has too ie: rear wash not working, headlight washers problematic, and passenger dorr not always locking

well a little update on this taken the car to seat today and WOW, great customer service from sarah constantly calling to let me know how the car is and letting me know of any other issues that it has,


its gone in for intercooler broken
left factory fit xenon going off and on randomly
headlight washers staying out
glovebox pin come off
passenger door not locking
engine mount bush buggered
rear washer not working

sarah then rang me asked if they could keep the car a further 24 hours as they have discovered the anti roll bar is worn and it needs console bushes, which it was nice for her to call me,

all this on a 57 plate FR with only 16,900 miles on the clock,

i will say one thing though, the mk5 courtesy car they have given me i think is a 1.4 diesel and its woefully slow and very basic, the car looks nice but then all the other stuff ruins it, i wish i could have got an fr out of them to have a look at, dont think id replace my mk4 for one anytime soon,
i planted my foot in 3rd and nothing happened at all lol, i do that in the fr and its off

Good to hear good service from a dealer! Like you I'm driving my sister's much slower car while I run her about while she can't drive. It's laughable when you put your foot down. Used to power and just nothing happens. Though makes everything of your car seem so good when you get back in it and drive. Must say i've almost headbutted the steering wheel a few times with the better brakes!

well got the car back from seat, they had fixed all the above problems and even did a full air con service and didnt charge me the 59 quid for it, how good are they, gave it a nice wash too, and car has behaved for the rest of the night,

WELL DONE huddersfield seat I WILL definately use you again and would recommend these guys to anyone, definately woulod buy a seat again just for the customer service alone, oh and now my xenons work properly again and so do my headlight washers

ok i know about bumping old threads, but the probelm has returned

so now as soon as i accelerate it just blows the bottom pipe off the intercooler,

had a new intercooler, had a new bottom hose as it has actually broke the metal clips on the swaged pipe (christ knows how), so at the min im having to drive around not letting it come on boost which in a FR tdi aint easy, until i can suss out the problem, its just annoys me it does it EVERYTIME now,
