yeah some of the facelift headunits support the ipod connection, not sure which though as i usually stick to pioneer

does any of the mk4 ibiza come with a head unit which is ipod compatable?

You can get a lead that allows mp3 or ipod to be fed in to the Alana head unit.

It won't give you any sort of control over the player - it just allows you to feed the music to the head unit.

Have a search for Aux in lead

Aren't they a bit pricey though? (although i may be thinking about something else)

if so an FM transmitter is a decent alternative and very cheap

or try asda as they sell them or even pc shops i got mine for £4 and its 3m long!!

Don't think we are on about the same cable.

The cable in the link below is for alana head units that do not have an mp3 input jack in the centre consol near the handbrake.

The cable plugs in to the square shaped connector block on the back of the head unit and allows you to feed an mp3 player in to it.

Was it ok ordering from america?

I didn't order from the usa. I can't find the link to the UK seller where i bought mine.

The usa link was just to show the correct cable.

I will have a look at my ebay history and see if i can find the uk seller.

so this cable. would it connect into non mp3 head unit and work?

YES - the method depends on the version of alana head unit that you have.

The ones with an "AUX" button will work as soon as you plug in the cable.

The ones with a "CD6" button need pin 14 earthing to fool the alana in to thinking there is a 6cd player plugged in.

Otherwise it is just the same plug and play system.

Nothing touches a Alpine unit with a 'REAL' ipod connector. The quality is clean.

.

Get rid of the factory unit, it has nothing on a great quality HU. The best sounds come from great quality units except for the Alana!

i just want to keep the factory unit in

Hadn't realised you only had the tape player alana unit - never seen a tape player unit in a mk4

As so many people seem to be taking them out it might be worth looking for an alana head unit with cd player in it. They should be quite cheap.

Your only other alternative at the mo is the previously suggested fm transmitter.

it has a cd player and not tape but the cd6/aux says tape?
so am a bit confused.
im not looking at changing the head unit i dont mind the factory one but would it be an idea to get the mp3 version alana just so i can plug my iphone in to it?

Only way to find out is to take out the head unit and look at the connection block on the back.

This thread - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106809&highlight=pin
shows the connection block - see post 11.

If yours looks the same there is a good chance the lead will work.
