Just had it confirmed in person tonight by SEAT president Luca De Meo that the new "MK4 Leon" will appear in 2019. No details as of yet really but the top boys and girls at SEAT have already "seen" the car so presume a clay mockup is already in Martorell. Fully expect it to look similar to the Tarraco which was launched tonight.

Really bad photoshopping skills there, it will look more like the Tarraco. Article also says "expected" I've had confirmation from Luca its next year.

Interior wise it will also follow suit of the Tarraco, them renders above are more like current Leon/Ibiza

If it’s coming next year it’ll be a long way past the clay model stage.

Yes, I’d expect road/track testing will be well underway by now, either under modified mk3 bodied test mules or a heavily disguised actual mk4 bodyshells.

Spy shots of mk8 Golf test mules have been published in the motoring press and the mk8 Golf launch is scheduled for mid year next year in Europe (UK launch is usually slightly later) and I’d expect the mk4 Leon’s development to be similarly well advanced, with the launch either a few months earlier or later than the Golf’s.

I hope it does not have the stuck on tablet look

It will.

What I do have to say on this matter is, a few friends have cars with the "stuck on tablet look" especially Mercedes and Audi. In their cars it really does just look like a docked tablet.

The Tarraco however in the flesh it's a lot more sunk into the dash. Doesn't look as bad as you would imagine.

I don’t mind the iPad look. My dad’s A4 has it and I like it.

The Tarraco is almost identical inside to the Tiguan Allspace, the only difference being the top of the Dash and "stuck on tablet". So as it's the only interior thing they've done I fully expect to see that in the Leon.

My local dealer tried to describe the MK4 changes to me during the back end of July.

He mentioned a headlight change which was quite vague but he did actually mention a tablet like infotainment on the dash.

I've been wanting an upgrade to the look of the infotainment unit for a while. Not sure if I like the Tarraco's, but I do prefer the glossy glass like finish to the infotainment unit.

VW have the glossy glass screen on their latest infotainment units and they’re a major finger print magnet!

Yeah, I've seen them on the polos, golfs, Octavias and the Ibiza.

Fingerprints won't be a problem though.
Haven't you heard it's all going to be voice controlled

I don't know why they just don't have one long curved screen for the cluster and infortainment.

I imagine it’s because when one screen fails, the other display can display critical information, similar to an aircraft glass cockpit?

Reasonable logic.
I like what they have done with the A class to get around that.

I was literally thinking the same thing. At least it looks like it's got a purpose like that, I really like it. The stuck on tablet look always looks like an afterthought to me, like the design team realised they forgot something at 5 to 5 on a Friday and just threw it on there.
