Hi Folks!

Now that the MK5 Ibiza has been out for a year or so now, I was interested in the thoughts of you members on how the two compare.

I own a MK4 2.0 Sport (which even despite some of the problems I have had has been a great little car) and am looking to shortly purchase a MK5 1.6 SportCoupe which im hopefully going to be test driving during xmas.

I was interested in any owners thoughts on the car (espically if you have owned both). In particular im interested in owners views on how the car drives, ride quality (espically sport suspension), quality/finish and any other areas which you feel the MK5 model has improved on the MK4 version.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers! :)

Hey-hey!

Go for the 1.2tsi. I have driven it for two days now and its amazing! 1.2tsi is a really good engine and it works well with DSG. Sport suspension makes the car really tight but its not uncomfortable.

I partexed my 57 TDI FR Ibiza for the Cupra. In my opinion (45k miles in the mk4, Only 6K miles in the mk5) the Mk4 build quality is better. Ill admit the Cupra is very good but i always have in the back of my mind it will break! It rattles a lot more than the mk4 did as well.

mk4 build quality is no way near the mk5. Not sure where you got this from.

I had a mk4 Cupra and now have a mk5 Boc. The Mk5 is better in every way. Build, handling and looks.

If your after a diesel i'd seriously consider the FR unless it is out of your price range.

Went from Ibiza FR TDI - to Leon - To MK5 Cupra and i have to say the Cupra quality isn't loads better than the MK4, i do miss the FR tdi sometimes. Cupra does handle really well tho, not as great as the clio sport but close enough to still enjoy it. Brakes let it down a tad, but overall worth every penny

I wouldn' go for the 1.6 - 1.2 tsi engine will easily perform if not out perfrom the 1.6 in all areas, fuel consumption, insurance etc

Or get a cupra you'll be amazed at insurace prices for 1

what brakes do you have?

I had a mk4 too and seriously, my boc is miles better put together than that was. I did love it, don't get me wrong but the mk5 is just that little bit more special as far as I am concerned. No problems with my boc apart from the boot handle that was replaced, no rattles apart from the one that comes from the boot on the odd ocasion. I think it's the spare so gonna line it with something and see if that sorts it. Love the mk5 way more than the mk4 tvh.

Cheers for the feedback guys!. I think its like with any car you can have a reliable one or you could have a dodgy one which rattles.

Read up more on the 1.2tsi which really is now looking like a gem! so think I might go and have a look at one of those! :)

It seems generally that peeps thinks the MK5 drives better than the MK4 :)

No contest mate. If I am not mistaken, having seen them side by side the mk5 seems to sit lower than the mk4 if that makes sense...........

Yeah there is no disputing at all that the mk5 handles better than the mk4.

My old cupra used to have mad tire wear and under steer like crazy. Ok I’ve spent over £1k on the handling on mine now but even in standard form it was much much more capable.

The great thing about these small engines with turbo's is you do get the economy and they are still plenty fast.

Revo will bring out a map for it I’m sure, you'll probably see around 120/130bhp then which will be nice!

Agree with you guys. Had the Mk4 for 4 years cos I loved it so. Good solid little car, looked stylish when it first came out, Handled like the old Mk2 Golf. (showing my age there learned to drive in the golf) Good stiff gear box, feels like you are driving the car, not the car driving you. not wishy washy like the Prissy Nissans (I know cos I had an Old Micra) When I parked it up against a mk 5, no comparison with looks. I fell in Love - Mk5 sleeker, looks like its hugging the road. The drive, I think is similar to the Mk 4 and the MPG is not as good as mk4. But what the hell I feel good when I drive it.

Cheers for your responses guys! Obviously looking like generally the MK5 is an improvement on the MK4, obviously looks alot sleeker! :D
