Bumping old thread...How has it been?

Fed up of the sagging sound proofing under my bonnet, going to get rid later and tape over the holes, but leave maybe 1 or 2 holes alone?

It's still looking good. Maybe slight swell, but not very notable. The water runs out when you drive or open the bonnet. Just open it slow and the water runs out the rear and into the gutter at bottom of the screen.

I would just seal it all up like I did. Don't think it will cause any problems as the paint under the scuttle is good. If you look at the bonnet when the proofing is off, you will see that the holes can drip into the strength bars and run along them. This means it can get wet and any part of the proofing.

I sent this in your PM reply.;)

Thank you very much!

All done!

I forgot I had the clips...I did remember them being quite expensive but I did notice something different, they had extra bits of foam around them? pretty good or something to do with stopping water? my older clips didn't have it!

I did pretty much the same thing however I did make tiny holes to fit the clips back in but yea my sound proofing was in a sorry state! very very bad!

Will be doing the tape over holes soon as water ends up sitting in the recess where the oil cap is when there is no sound deadening.

How is this solution holding up ? apologies for reviving an old thread

Ive got a 57 plate candy white btcc fr tdi with all the gadgets and lo behold I have the same water penetration problem. I was just wondering if this fix would be applicable to my car or would the shapes be different.

Now I plan to use gorilla tape to seal all the holes and get a new soundproofing mat/layer. I also plan to use the d foam or something's similar (maybe gorilla tape?) to seal the bonet strip area and use plastidip or rubberised paint to coat the underside of the mat to ensure no mould or sag will occur.

Just wanted people's opinion on this solution and how much difference it would actually make, or if there is anything i should do differently.

Thanks in advance

Not a good fix for me...

Ended up using a TTS engine cover to stop the water going into the Cylinders! Ballache!

I'll try using Silicon (seal it for good!) next time though!

Did you use any rubber self adhesive strips or draught foam on the edge of the scuttle area to form a seal aswell as the tape over the holes ? In theory this seems like a good fix.

I'm guessing you don't recommend the tape over the holes then ?

Mine is soaked too. Hung it from coat hangers for 4 days in the airing cupboard its dry now. Im going to paint the back with isoflex liquid rubber. It is flexible rubber paint that seals roofs so will stop the foam soaking up water. Another member on here did the same with plastidip which is similar only dearer and harder to get hold of. Isoflex is only £12 in b&q. Also ordered the new clips for scuttle which have rubber seals to stop water going through and will be adding the foam fix too. Hopefully this will cover all bases.

I just received my new clips. £1.80 each from main dealer. They literally just have a small rubber washer on probably be much cheaper to buy rubber washers from a diy store or similar

Finished painting the soundproofing now. Mine was particularly wet and therefore lost its neatness a bit. This made it more difficult to paint but got there in the end. Paint has dried quite well and I think will definitely help keep the water from soaking up
