Hi Guys
I've got a MK1 LEON 1.9 TDI 110 bhp (55k).
I'm new to diesels and have only had the car a little over a month and I am concerned that two or three seconds after turning the engine off there is a single muffled thud. It's done it for a few days now but there seems to be no other symptoms indicating any obvious problem, in that it drives fine and starts perfectly every time.
I have used the search feature on the forum but have drawn a blank on finding an answer but I know a bit about sound deadening now;-)

Thanks in advance
Lee

Hi NI3K
Thanks for your reply, but no I don't have a sub. I have managed to get out of the car quick enough to hear it outside so I know it's coming from the engine.
Another way of describing the noise would be to say that it sounds like a door being closed in a different room or in your neighbours house. I had thought it might be a valve sticking and releasing pressure but I don't know enough about this kind of stuff to even hazard a guess really.

All the best
Lee

Sounds like the anti shudder valve on the inlet manifold. Thats the only thing active after the engine is switched off.

Thanks for that MJ, I'll have a poke about tomorrow and check it out. Do you think it'll just need cleaning out and some lube?

All the best
