No need to get at each other for trying different vastly cost differing idea. Must admit that FMIC does look very tasty! I'd go for red hoses on the Boc though.

Are you running stage 2?

mardon i am not having a go at him for doing this, i am mentioning that there is no chance that this thing will give you anywhere 50% efficiency compared to a Intercooler, not every1 has tried it and understand b4 what the true gains are.
I did it because in2 days i was getting my cooler so i was qurious.
Furthermore i should add that after intercooler you have to further adjust your remap in order to get the increased horsepower.

Regarding your question mate about the remap, i have a custom remap that is set 5 horses below the safe limit. I only classify remap as stage 1, stage 2 is sort of marketing trick if you know what i mean.

An yeah for boc i think red will look better :D

My air intake temp dropped from 10-12'c difference to 5'c with the gaps sealed. My radiator water temps dropped from 88'c constant to 85-87 max.

BEFORE - measuring from OBD2 and engines intake manifold air temp ------ 30'c - 21'c = 9 degree variance 87'c water temp.

AFTER - measuring from OBD2 and engines intake manifold air temp ------ 33'c - 27.5'c = 5.5 degree variance 86'c water temp.

Improvement = 4'c intake temp and 1'c water temp and this was comparing a cool day with a hot day! before on 27.5'c day it would reach almost 40'c intake manifold air temp.

First of all i suggest you calm a little bit cos you sound like an angry kid.

here is the picture of how my stock cooler was with all plastic removed, obviously i did not put any aluminium sheets cos i dont want to look like a complete idiot.

the pictures you show dont really say anything one was taken when you had 9000km and the other when you had 12000 so you are probably in a different season lol, they are not immediatelly after you did the mod as the hour is different the environment temperature was different and you really dont expect me to know how much pressure the car had b4 the pics. I could show a picture of 58degrees in the middle of august and now a pic of 22 degrees you really think it would be that my new cooler dropped the temp 36 degrees

To end this childish argument, personally i couldnt care any less if you or any1 else will do this, just felt a bit sorry for those that would go for it and expect a serious difference.

OK folks, let keep it clean. Obviously we all have our opinions on what makes a diffrence and what doesn't. I like both ideas and not having been behind the bumper of my boc yet I can't say whether polarbears system would fit depending on gaps etc. After all you have a golf so I am of the impression that engine bay sizes and spaces may vary vastly. Grude, loving the idea with the new intercooler. I can see that must have replaced the original intercooler so do you think the twintercooler from forge would yield the same results as your nre FMIC? they are confirming a 10hp gain and with our REVO already close to about 220BHP that should see us round the 230BHP mark. How is your DSG handling 315nM? How did you manage to remap that?

I would expect that the Forge one will be better, but there is a difference between the 1000 Euros that costs nstalled here in greece and the 450 i paid. I couldnt tell you the exact difference, but put it that way. I was temporarilly remaped just by loggings without cooler and after final remap on the dyno with cooler i got 235. Dsg is doing great for the time being, it was more of a problem to keep it low the torque rather than the opposite hehe. It can be achieved by blowing 1.5 bar and 1.2 on the limiter. A greek guy that put revo he claimed that he is running on 1.3bar.

The intercooler in GRdude's pic is extremely small. So unfortunately, I don't think my mod is going to give the same benefit as on the golf.

The golf comes stock with an intercooler that takes up as much area as the radiator, it is the whole front of the car basically. Your one is very short and only covers a small bottom section. Therefore, funelling the air to force it through your cooler, while objectively effective (air takes path of least resistance and will go around something if it is easier than going through it) it just won't make as much difference on such a small cooler.

The idea is still worthwhile as I have seen much more consistent temps in my radiator water and the fan almost never comes on and I am in Australia.

Here is an article showing my idea works
http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Intercooler-Enhancement/A_2470/article.html

Here is a radiator shroud using the same concept on a NASCAR.

"For NASCAR Late Model Stock Bodies
Unique slide together design makes it simple and fast to install.
Durable molded plastic easily adjusts up or down and side to side for perfect fit.
Molded Aero Ribs control and directs the air as it flows in to the radiator.
Wide 1.00” flanges provide positive seal to radiator and nose piece.
Clear inspection panel is removable for cleaning and includes quick release fasteners and springs.
Fits 31” Radiators-BUMPER BARS SOLD SEPERATELY."

Here are some other things you can try.

Painting interior trim using VHT Vinyl Dye.
I used Satin Black. It works on plastic and cloth really well.

DEKA race battery
(normally used in harley davidson and other ATV vehicles). This battery is rebranded with a carbon shell and called BRAILLE RACE BATTERIES - plus about another $300 cost LOL.

That is like a 10kg weight saving!

YEP! and even better is that with a dry cell battery you can orientate it in any way you feel like, upside down, sideways, hidden under the passenger seat or in the boot for good weight distribution. IT won't spill acid on you if it breaks. It has a higher CCA than the stock battery by about 200CCA.

Think of it like a powerlifter vs an endurance athlete. The Deka can crank much stronger but just for not very long, so you can't sit in the car for 2 hours playing the stereo. If you drive it once a day you won't have issues till the car has been sitting for about 5 days.

The dry cell also has less memory and so running it flat when you go on holiday does not stop it recharging. PLUS- Wait theres more! IT is cheaper then most high end batteries or a stock battery because it is for a small ATV or a motorbike. I have been running this battery for about a year and a half including letting it go dead about 7 times. 10kg saving is 10L of fuel that rides for free permanently.

Check it out Mark:

Polarbear666 would you be able to tell us which weight one in that range is the correct one to use. Lightest there is a 6lb one. Price is not too bad actually considering the savings you say we can make on petrol.
