Any of you LCR owners had this problem, please post:

About a week ago, on a cold morning, i noticed there was a wierd rattly noise along with another noise coming from what i thought was a blown Cat. This noise eventually goes away after the car warms up but i can sence a little noise still. I went to 3 garages, Kwik fit say possibly the cat is on its way out, other two say it fine, but i know its not.

8 days on and the noise is still there, still get rattly noise along with the noise of possible gas escaping from exhaust. Very noticable on cold starts though, once the engines warmed up, its harder to tell.

Anyone developed a noise like this from centre of exhaust area before? please let me know guys.

Also, i don't know if this is normal, on myLCR whenever iv been accelerating, then take my foot of the accelerator the car makes a noise as its slowing down, bit like something winding down like a washing machine from a fast spin or something, as soon as i press the clutch, the noise disapear. I don't know if this noise and the cold start noise are related to be honest.

Please help!!!:(

First issue is fairly normal I believe, it's been discussed here before so have a search for info.

Second problem could be a noisy gear box, although I'm no expert in gearboxes to be honest.

I also get the winding down noise. The gearbox in my LCR seems to be a bit louder compared to my old LC.

I had a similar sound from the exhaust on a 206 GTI I had once. I was told that it was the baffles in the cat but I sold if before I actually confirmed that. On the bright side if it is the cat at least you can get a 200 or 100 cell cat to replace it and get the car breathing a little better.

With all due respect, have you actually had a search for info on this yet?

The noise is because you have a pump that fires air into the cat at startup. It does this to help the cat warm up quicker, so it does it job properly right from the start. This can and often does sound like a rattly and/or blowing exhaust for the first 90 seconds or so.

Search for something like 'air into cat' and see what you find ;)

Fairly unlikely buddy, The noise as i said doesn't go away. Its still there, I really cannot tell if there is loss of performance because i very rarely drive it hard because of road humps and speed camera's everywhere where i live.

Let me describe the rattle to you. Its not a very obvious rattle, is like placing a screw or something in the exhaust system and everytime you press the gas, you can hear it rattle, along with a blowing noise, very suttle though, as soon as the exaust heats up fully the noise is harder to hear, but is still there non the less. I park in my garage. so due to the walls around the car, the noise is heard much better and clearer than you would in the open.
