Hi I drive a seat cupra 2000 reg and in recent weeks it wont start, i turn the key and theres a lot of clicking just wont start up but other times it starts no problem. Any idea's on what it could be?? ( drove through a flood not so long a go could it be damp ?)
Ive read up and theres so many possibilities. It starts absolutely fine sometimes but other times it wont, like this morning i tried starting it around 7 and it wouldnt so i tried again about 2 hours later and it did! Sounds like its going to be expensive!
could be your battery if it is starting to fail the cold mornings will get to it I'd get the battery checked first before forking out for a starter motor
I thought it might be that but had no problems at all with any lights or anything else electrical apart from on my boost gauge the needle doesnt seemed to move where as before when you start the car it would move up!
Don't go buying a starter motor...make sure you know what it is first!
Does seem strange why it starts a while later,so i wouldn't suspect the battery..i could be wrong!
When I had a similar problem it was the electrical contacts between solenoid and the actual motor on the starter motor assembly. You'll probably need to remove the starter to do it, but the fix avoids buying a new starter.
