Hello everyone!

I'll get straight to the point. I currently drive a VW Polo 2002 1.4 with a whopping great 75hp and 125Nm of torque at roughly 4000rpm. It's fine for popping to the shops, but it's not exactly great for my daily 50 mile commute down the motorway. There are occasions I can barely hold 70mph on some inclines

So, i'm getting a new car! The 2012 SEAT Ibiza FR 1.6TDI. I know I know, I here your cries "Why not the 1.2TSI" well simply put I got this diesel at a great price and found larger engine size and higher level of torque attractive for my fairly long journeys.

It's going to be my first new car, and only my 2nd car at that.

The 0-60 time of 10.5 seconds is only marginally better than the 12.6 seconds of my Polo. However, the figures quite different:

Polo:
125Nm at roughly 4000RPM

Ibiza 1.6TDI
250Nm at 1500RPM.

So i'm hoping it brings quite a different driving experience than that of my polo that feels like it's working overtime at anything above 60 mph, which also requires constant gear changes as it has NO pull at anything below 2500RPM if your in the wrong gear. Absolutely nada.

So am I going to be really dissapointed or pleasantly surprised ?

The biggest difference your notice is more power low down in the ibiza compared to your polo

Personally i think you made a better move going for the Diesel because of your long daily commute

Plus you could always remap it in the future for more power :)

Thats what I was thinking. 250Nm of torque at 1500Rpm is about the total opposite of my polo, which is probably more like 50Nm at 1500Rpm

Well if it gets me down the motorway easily and lets me overtake on B roads without risking life and limb then I will be happy :D

I'm actually just looking forward to having a working car. There are so many broken parts on my polo the repair bill is higher than it would be worth fully fixed up. Engine temp sensor, broken coil, broken rear wheel (spun out in the ice and hit the kerb), leaking body, broken wipers to name a few..

I have the 16tdi and have done 40'000 miles in it in the last 30 months, believe me it is a much underrated engine. I am sure you will love it!

Thats great to hear. Many of the reviews I find are from people used to driving nice fast hot hatches every day, they fail to consider that people like me are coming from cars with significantly less power to begin with. It's hard to find someones opinion that is used to normal cars with average to low power.

I've gotta agree with the above. Your long journeys etc the diesel will easilly be better for you. Add to that the fact if you wanted more fun later down the line, remap or add a tuning box for more power and torque whislt keeping the good fuel economy. :)

Any pics of the car. ?

you will notice the power. just dont let anybody take you out in a cupra. i did and ended up with one on the drive haha

I went to buy the 1.6tdi and I wasn't to impressed with the power but I was going from a 180bhp 1.9tdi so it was never going to be as good. I then before taking delivery noticed they had the 1.2tsi fr and took that for a drive and have to say I was quite impressed with how torqy the engine was and I ended up buying that. And for the price difference between the 2 I couldn't justify the extra for the 1.6tdi.
But like you say from what your going from its going to be a big difference and you should enjoy it

Did you not have a test drive before buying? You'd certainly notice the difference if you had.

Actually I didn't, funnily enough. I've researched the car to death, I know I'll fit and I know whatever it is will be an improvement on my polo - so there was no need really, while I would of liked to, i'll like the surprise of driving it for the first time when I get it more :)
