my ibiza is melting....!

Hi all, I had a full blueflame exhaust fitted a few months ago to my Mk3 Ibiza Cupra which I bought in the SCN group buy.

I was the only person at the time to have a problem with the exhaust melting my bumper....

After many visits to garages for the exhaust to be re-aligned etc I bought a fast road engine mount (front mount only) which I was assured would stop the exhausts movement and hense the melting bumper and the many vibrations/rattles that I was getting.

So I have now had the FR engine mount fitted.....

The melting has now got even worse! The oval tailpipe keeps moving over to the left so that it is literally resting against the cut-out. Previously it was also melting the top of the cut-out (above the exhaust) but this isn't happening anymore.

The rattles have now moved...! Before they seemed to be coming from the downpipe and area below the drivers seat. The FR mount has sorted these (and it is nice not to have a vibrating drivers seat) but the rattles have now moved to the rear of the system, and they are very loud.

Has anyone got any suggestions to why I am having these problems when no one else has? or how I could sort it out?

The system was not fitted by Blueflame, but by a well repected Jap car tuner who say I am their 1st customer not to be 100% satisfied with an exhaust they have fitted...

Maybe the rest of their customers dont mind their cars melting. Personally I can see how that could get irritating after awhile

it has to be adjustment...
rear mount just before rear beam area has a section which supports under neath the zorst. A common error when fitting and aligning these stainless systems is to adjust the hangers so they are upright as opposed leaning towards the front of the car. Reason for this being stainless zorsts expand a lot.. hell of a lot, so growing swings the adjutsment backwards so what does'nt look close when cold is touching when hot.

Thanks for the comments.

Well I gave up with the Jap tuners in Dover, and won't go back again.

Took my car to Sunbury Exhausts and they were very helpfull (and didn't charge me for 45 mins labour). They re-aligned the system, and hammered it a bit to reduce the length of the system by nearly an inch so it cleared the rear axle, and re-positioned one of the hangers.

All the knocking has now gone, but the system still wants to slide to the left, although this isn't causing any melting now. I suppose I can live with my tailpipe sittting slightly off centre.

Only thing which is slightly concerning is the garage said the Jap tuners had used the foam type sealant where the dp attaches the turbo....Apparently this shouldn't be used in front of a cat because debris could damage the cells. Do I have a problem here?

Hi JIMYU,

Sorry I didnt notice this post before.

Hmm.. sounds like a same issue although mine has not melted it's just moved slightly. When cold it sits to the left although when hot it's more central.

Mine has been re-fitted twice and seems to be much better although the hangers have been heated and moved to make it fit better.

It's strange because the exhaust wasn't like this when it was originally fitted it seems to have been more recent.

My second concern is with the bends over the rear axle. If I was to lower the car I'm sure that it will be hitting for sure. I don't know why they didn't make the pipe more vertical because theres loads of room under there.

Do you notice a bang when changing from 1st to 2nd when giving it some. I'm sure the downpipe on mine is hitting the steerring rack.

No I never got any bangs when changing gear, mine was okay once I got past 2k revs...only really had problems in 1st gear and at very low revs in 2nd.

The system does sit very close to the axle, and I can see where it was hitting before. I expect mine will still knock if I have more than 1 passenger, but I don't normally allow people in the back. Sinse I had the system hammered together a bit there is a fair bit more clearance.

btw I have seat sport susp. kit, so I'm about 20mm lower than standard.

Since fitting the FR engine mount I haven't heard a sound from the downpipe knocking/vibrating. But that costs about £200 inc. fitting so isn't a great solution to your problem.
