It's the bottom of the ninth, the bases are loaded, and you know the next one's coming right down the middle..... I joke
Seen as its the weekend I thought i'd travel home as there wasnt much doing on the base.
So I left Faslane traveling to St. Helens just after lunch with my range saying 220 miles, thinking i'd stop at the Shell garage to get some fuel at Helensburgh though upon reaching the Shell garage I decided to carry on to see if I could make it home with what I had left, by this time i'd already travelled about 10 miles and my range was 205 miles.
So after about another 10-15 miles I reached the M8 and I basically kept my speed to 55MPH all the way down the M8, M74 then onto the M6.
Sitrep, after doing 122 miles I realised I was still in SPORT mode, this was swifty switched to ECO mode but if this actually did anything for my MPG remains to be seen as I had the cruise control on and doing the same speed 90% of the way.
Arriving home about 1 hr and 20 mins later than the Sat Nav originally predicted and having only achieved 2 overtakes and I know sitting at 55MPH on the motorway isn't everyones cup of tea and I felt like I was frustrating the HGV's but as I was in no real rush to get home and I thought it was a useful experiment to try.
Figures as follows:
Since start
Travelled - 247 Miles
Avg Speed - 45 MPH
Time - 5hr 32min
Avg MPG - 70.1
Range - 45 miles
Now i'm quite suprised with that considering its a car producing 181BHP, yes its a diesel but still think its impressive, now I do feel justified in doing it and also saved myelf a few ££
What are your opinions?
Keith
