Anyone know if 235/45/17 tyres will fit on the rims ok? Will they rub?

Bit wide I think. Might not be ideal for the rim width either, as tyres and rim width do need to be matched for best performance, or you'll end up with too much flex in the sidewalls.

wheels are 7J, so i think 235 will be a tad too wide
