Hi all,

Had a recent boosting problem that I have narrowed down to be the N249 valve. I've currenly by passed it and the problem has gone.

Will i get away with retaining the by-pass ?

Or do i need to replace the n249?

Cheers

The n249 valve is a protecive device for the car. It can put you into limp mode if it thinks you have a boost leak. With it bypast it can't limp the car (other than the ecu reducing the duty cycle of the n75 valve). I doubt the n249 valve was faulty, disconnecting it has stopped you going limp as you probably did before.

Hi mate,

The code i've been getting more and more regularly over the past few moths is:

17535 - Fuel trim bank 1 system too rich - i read this as a boost leak, i.e. the air in (via the maf sensor) is not the same quantity by the time it gets to the combustion chamber, hence the car getting too much fuel?)

and sometimes 16804 - Catalyst System Bank 1: Efficiency below threshold (but I think this is related to my high flow cat) - this occurs more when the code above is active.

I've checked every pipe in the system that could be leaking, serviced my DV & also replaced the N75 valve, new upper boost hoses and a new turbo outlet hose! but the '17535' code kept coming back. So I decided to bypass the N249 valve. The car has run fine for a week with no problems since i did that.

I didn't get limp mode from the car I just got reduced boost (about 6 psi) and eventually the ecu light came on. If i reset it (using VAG COM) it lasted a couple of days or sometimes a few hours.

I was hoping i'd sussed it but maybe it sounds like i've not!
