NEED HELP, uprated clutch, have I been stitched up

Hi, all I have recently fitted a K04 turbo to my leon now running 330bhp and 330nm torque.

after doing about 600 mile in my car i found the clutch start to slip when putting my foot down in 5th and 6th.

I have been looking around on the forum trying too find out what clutch to get as i don't want it to slip again. i was told by a lot of people to get a SACH uprated clutch and keep the dual mass flywheel.

so after hunting around I found a clutch on ebay from a company called techniclutch also nown as nationwide clutch distributors.
The item stated there clutch is capable of over 480nm of torque which i thought would be ideal for me.

so i received the clutch today and the dmf and slave cylinder look fine in SACH boxes. but the clutch plate was in a white box and looks to be sprayed, indicating its a remanafactured clutch. there is nothing to show its uprated or if it has kevlar friction material.

I contacted the company who supplied it to me and they told be that the clutch is taken away and a carbon kevlar material is put on the clutch.

i really don't know what to do or believe, i spoke to pat at LVS in Lincoln and he said go for it. but after reading yell reviews i really don't know what to do.

It would be great for anyone's input or even anyones experience with techniclutch? Also what torque figures are people running with what clutch??

bare in mind my car has done 900000 miles on the same clutch.

here some links for ebay and yell for the product info and yell reviews.

If you have a quick google for techniclutch the results don't look that great for their reputation. Mostly bad reviews with only some good experiences. Might be worth getting in contact with them and ask them more info on the clutch conversion to Kevlar material?

I recently changed mine to a Sachs organic clutch and the friction material was visibly different as it was one solid piece too.

The idea is to Google before you buy.
They have a terrible reputation and I would not buy a keyring from them

They have a terrible reputation and at the moment your in the best position to return it for a full refund as it's not as described.
That's what I'd be doing.

I got mine as a SMF conversion from samtech performance, expensive but worth it.

It's a shame you've been caught out with a bad product but as Marshall said above you will be entitled to your refund as its not fit for purpose.

One of my friends put a techniclutch on his civic type r and had no issues with slip, may be due to the lack of torque those engines produce. But did however get a clutch friction plate spring that started rattling.

Let us know the outcome though, good luck

The only thing I'm worried about is that they won't return it as the state it's uprated but I'm just assuming it's not? I'll be putting a photo of the clutch on later

You should be able to tell from the part numbers on the pressure plate if it's an uprated unit,

Sachs performance pressure plate is 883082.001394

Sachs Performance Clutch Disc 881864.999502

So heres the photos of the clutch and as you can see its nothing special. I also cant see any part numbers on there like that.

Has anyone on here still got there standard clutch running on 330nm of torque?

also can i just uprate the clutch and not change to singlemass flywheel. Or can you fit a 170pd diesel clutch? as that could stand more torque

photos of clutch below

You can update the clutch and use the DMF yes. Sachs do one for £580 I think the last time I looked as I'm hoping my standard clutch which is only 500 miles old will last for a bit. I've read a lot of post about people been fine with a standard clutch on stage 2+ power. Depends how you drive it I suppose.

That's the same one as posted above, works really well with standard dmf as quite a few people run it

From what I can see on photos it just looks like a standard clutch, although I'm still not 100% it's a Sachs one as there's normally more writing on them, just the two engravings. But even if it was/is Sachs it should've been able to take the power you're currently running.

But do you think it's worth the risk ordering a new Sachs clutch to find it slip again when I could just a sachs performance one

I can definitely recommend the Sachs organic that's been linked, gives you more headroom for future tuning too :)
