New 2025 Leon 2025 VZ2 PHEV- weird feeling on brakes

Brand new car. Both my wife and I noticed a weird feeling when on the brakes a few times, only when coming up to a junction. The car would be slowing down and feeling normal but then suddenly, just for a moment and just a few seconds before we would expect it to come to a halt, you feel that the brakes were no longer slowing the car and you have to then really stamp hard. It's very disconcerting.

Tried to replicate it by waiting till the road was empty and stopping dead at various speeds but I couldn't get it to happen, but it happened twice to me and twice to my wife, so it can't be entirely in my head.

Any ideas why we're getting this?

Seems that it’s normal behaviour with the PHEV - there’s a similar / same discussion topic on this on the Cupra Formentor forum board - click on the link below;

THanks for that. Didn't occur to me to check the Formentor forums.

If it's supposed to happen then that's fine - was just worried that something was busted.

If you watch your speedo as you slow you will notice the regen cuts out at exactly 20mph, so the car will then coast and so you have to increase the brake pedal pressure to compensate. It's very different and unpleasant when compared to a full EV or ICE, inconsistent and jumpy if you aren't ready for it.

However, you get the maximum regen, hence fuel economy, if you lift off when the foot-up icon appears and let the car control the approach to the junction - then use the brake to slow from 20 to a stop. It takes a bit of practice to get used to, also the car is a lot more cautious than most drivers so it feels like you're going too slow. But on roundabouts it means you arrive at the right speed to decide whether to stop or go most of the time.

I use this function a lot - it must also know speed limits as it shows the lift off symbol when entering a slower area and slows you down to exactly the right speed!
