New alloys - Thoughts?

Come on boys, - stop playing around and get some Mk 5 Golf Gti wheels on like I did today !

You know you want to... ...Easy to keep looking mint, easy to repair, and will really be the final straw to Gti drivers !

very nice rims.... gotta watch with replicas tho.... they tend to be a lot heavier than originals.... i had replica R32 rims on my mk4 golf.... they weight a tonne.... i sold my golf and then tried them on my mk1 cupra..... the handling went out the window... it understeered like mad and was considerably slower... the unsprung weight killed the complete feel of the car.....i only got 180bhp....
may differ on the mk2... but thats just from my experience...

My new ones are replicas and I reckon they are 15-20% heavier than std, though I am not able to detect any handling changes.

Does anyone know where there is a list of alloy wheels by weight ?

Which wheels weigh less than the Std Cupra ones ?

i have also decided against replicas,a m8 of a m8 is selling a set of r32 alloys,i am having a look at them later,other than that i will get the 3 wheels with scuffs refurbed.....

If you want light weight wheels you will have to get proper light weight rims, like team dynamics etc.... i know that the wheels im gettin from team dynamics weigh 7.5 kgs and are 17's, my standard cupra 16's weigh 16kgs....so im gonna be losin 8.5 kgs per corner. light weight rims make a hell of a difference, handling and acceleration improves. I had a 1600 vtec (160bhp) civic and put sum light weight Mugen rims on that, made hell of a difference to the car.

just think of it as running the london marathon with steel toe cap boots or running it with a pair of reeboks. whih would be better??

I was considering replacement alloys and the only ones I would even consider would be the 18" Ultraleggeras. I had the old superleggeras on my old 1.4 turbo, and as smithygcupra says, they make a helluva difference to unsprung weight but also to brake efficiency. The acceleration was much more improved as well. Only problem is that the cheapest I can find original O.Z.'s is around the £1000 mark, so I have to start saving
