Well, its about the time now that im looking for a new car. Only problem is i cant really make up my mind on which one to head towards, My current ones iv been looking at are;

Renaultsport Megan R26. 230
VW Golf Mk5 GTI
Audi TT Mk1 225 (hard top)
Seat Leon Cupra 225

Obviously in my time i will try and get test drives in all of the above cars aswell.

Just looking for peoples opinions on the above cars, or maybe suggestions on other cars that people think may be suitable, Im 21 currenly hold 1 years NCB and am currently driving a Leon cupra 180. My budget will be about £8000 also.

Thanks.

Lancer Evo 6

Can't see that in the list :cartman:

Think it would be the golf if it was my choice. Great tuneability, build quality blah blah. The Renault is very good from what i hear, but tuning is still quite limited, and build quality isn't as good as VAG. Audi TT is another option, but i think the golf is a nicer looking car

HTH :)

I did think about Evo's but not sure id actually buy one with my own money :p As for the scubby:blink: Not too keen on those, lol. But thanks for the imput, Its helpful :)

Thanks mate, The golf does seem the "smartest" options.

How about keep the 180 cupra and do some more work on it? subscribed to your RR thread and been loving it for a while now!

If it was from your list mind, probably the 225 TT, what colour though?

Hi mate, iv had 3 of the above mk5 gti, leon R 225 and TT 225.

the TT id never own again these have so many niggles and faults just waiting to go wrong (mine did) so iv not had a very nice experiance with them read up on them (forums etc you will see!),also i found it boring to be honest more of a cruising car!! only had it for 4 months couldnt wait to see the back of it! only thing id take from it was the sound system!

the mk5 gti was great felt grown up. great handling even in standard form good engine as you know looks great on the 18" wheels! these are very good prices now and a nice spec'd one with the toys, its a lot of car for the money

my LCR was very nice when i first thought about buying one after owning a lot of other types of hothatchs i didn't expect a lot to be honest but modded this was great fun power was great interior was much nicer place to be than i expected,i was well impressed, your cupra will be a lot the same but it will be a nice step up for sure.

out of all of them i tihnk the MK5 Gti is a nice move, megane is a very fun car handles great but as said above tuning isn't all that good depends what your after?

J

thank you very much for that mate, has taken the TT out of the list. i did also read about a few of the niggles with it on other forums.

The thing is mate, well imo all the car's you've listed are essentially the same thing, tarted up of different guises, yes some of you are to break that down and say no, blah blah blah

It all depends on what your after? comfort, speed, looks?! 2 out of 3? with 8K you can buy a monster jap turbo, Evo 6 and even a 7 (have come down in price) £ per bhp, the evo is way cheaper to tune and a true 'race/rally' car out the box, performance wise it would standard to standard, moded to moded would destroy all the car's you listed.

It depends what you want from your next car really.

Something fun with hard suspension for the weekend? - Megane

A good every day cruiser that's built well, fairly quick but not too fussed about tuning (due to small K03)? - Golf GTi

Something that you can potentially tune the nuts out of that won't cost the earth to buy? - LCR

I would personally consider the MK1 Ford Focus RS while you're at it :)

I'll have to agree with JamJay here about the mk1 focus RS. You will find it very hard to find a better hothatch with the same tuning potential as the RS. It comes standerd with forged pistons and a performance clutch and fly wheel so it is good for 380bhp without having to replace factory parts. In my opinion you couldn't go wrong with the RS.

only 1 way to find out is to drive them all mate.

Yeah, very true mate, just getting the time to do it is the problem.

To be honest mate, im not really after a highly tuned monster, just something i can perform the simple mods on. Also HAS to be reliable as it will be a daily.

Thanks mate, my current LC has hard suspension so that doesnt really bother me, it has to be reliable as it will be used as a daily, the ford RS is an option but not overly keen on the looks, another one i could look at is the Astra VXR.

Foci RS!!

I sometimes think that I should have got one instead of the LCR..

But the LCR is a great compromise.

I had a Megane R26 before i got the Leon. Its a brilliant car. If you go to see one, check the electric windows as the regulators are known to give bother on them. I was getting 21mpg in mine but i like to push cars to their limits. The best i ever seen was 35mpg and that was on a 180 mile round trip. Definately worth taking a test drive in one.

if ur not going to do any serious tuning and just the occasional bits and bobs i dont think u can really go wrong with any of the LCR, GTI or Megane. All are really good cars.

I did the RaceMaster thing at Brands Hatch in one of those R26's. Awesome car. Same power as my LCR and similar in delivery, but oh my the handling was insane!

Really stuck like glue and I was amazed at how much exit speed you could get coming out of Druids' etc.

Great track weapon.
