I've not driven a Cupra with Brembos, but I've had two cars with them fitted.

For what you have to pay for them, I was'nt impressed at all.
Yes they do stop you quite well, but you really have to stamp on the pedal to do so- initial feel is quite lacking in feedback.

I much prefer the feel of the Cupras brake pedal, & I have to say, IMO they offer just as much stopping power as the Brembos I've had in the past. If not more.


I can't see why everyone is getting worked up about the brakes TBH, if it stops in the same distance, & can keep brake fade to a minimum like the Brembos can, then why bother?

Just to look cool in front of your mates?

I'd also bet the standard calipers are a tad lighter than the 4/6 piston Brembos, giving a lighter unsprung weight?

Not mentioning the brake squeel associated with Brembos when cold.

I think the OEM Brembo pads are a bit crap for feel and can be fixed easily with Ferodo DS2500 pads, but the calipers themselves are excellent. Look at the new Clio 200 reviews and how much those brakes are loved by the press.

I agree with evrything you've just said.
I'm sure I've read reviews where they've praised the brakes on the Cupra too.

I seriously doubt the standard sliding calipers would be far off the Brembos mechanical performance.

As I said, the squeeling would soon put you off & cursing at speccing the £1400 option!

Personally I wouldn't want 19" wheels as the ride and handling will be worse, so I don't know what the £2k, over the Cupra, is buying you apart from a remap?

But can a company really make money by churning out forgettable euroboxes? I think, ironically, SEAT need some design inspiration from VW whose Mk6 Golf actually looks very good.

Only problem is they aren't helping matters by tightening the coffers. Devoted SEAT customers are leaving (or in my case not returning) as they are failing to recreate some of that Auto Emocion magic. If they'd never had skill in this space I'd care less, but the older cars were often the pick of the VAG bunch. Whilst they are still very good, they have lost the competitive edge needed to awaken people's senses. SEAT still aren't that well known in this dominant market, and cars like the new Cupra R won't help.
 
Trouble is the UK is the worlds biggest and SEATs biggest hothatch market by a considerable margin, and outside the UK, SEAT dont sell many cupras at all.

So therefore on a grander scale it doesnt make sense. However give it some time, the same audi directors that got audi from also ran premium pretender to todays class leader contenders are at the helm at SEAT, and I think the next gen of SEAT's will really see their influence and we will see a bigger differentiation of SEAT cars compared to the rest of the VAG lineup.

Part of that reason is going to be that VAG have dumbed them down and thus they're not producing the 'thinking man's' hot hatches like they were before. Agreed that next to VW and Audi they are spectacular value for money on paper, it's just the detailing that lets them down.

Lets hope so, the new Ibiza is a step in the right direction in 3 SC format. 5 door is pig ugly which is a shame as it's a 5 door I need. :(

Going back to the brakes on the new LCR, unless they were going to do a dedicated track version like Reggie did with the Megane there would be no point in SEAT spending a fortune on tooling up for fancy brakes. The S3 and R32 used the same ones as the Cupra does and the Leon is the lighter car, those brakes are fine for a road car which the LCR is. All it would have taken to keep most of us happy would have been an attractive looking front spoiler/lip or unique bumper. Not much to ask really.
