TAMWORTH
hi all:
had my first test drive this morning in the new leon cupra.
i arrived at the listers garage @ 9:15 am as agreed for the test run, but before we could go out, they had to move quit a few cars around, so me & wife went for a look around in the showroom.
15 mins later the yellow cupra was ready for us to drive, the saleman took the car off the court yard & headed toward coombe abby way, at this place we did the swop around, & for a couple of mins i just got to no where all switchs & controls where, & then i set off.
well i did! we headed down some rd to the old fossway & it was full of nice straight roads for me to take the cupra to its full exstream.
the gears where really smooth & the power delivery was good in all gears, did notice, that when i was it 3rd gear & booted it, it was as tho there was an extra turbo kicking in, as when this happened it put you back into the nice hugging seat. the surpension on the cupra is very hard & i mean hard, it felt every bloody bump & pot hole, & not to sure if this was making the car sway at bit on the road.
i also noticed that under heavy braking the car would wobble a bit, not to sure if this was the road conditions or the surpension & braking taking part.
i love how they set all the interior out & the nice rumble of the exhaust.
now for the power.
it moves really quick through all the gears, & at one point i left it in 3rd doing 60mph & then dropped the hammer, until it hit nearly 100mph & then changed & it still wanted more in the too remaining gears. ( private roads of course. )

overall impression of the new leon cupra, is i like the look of the yellow one, as this is saying something, not too keen on the other colours sorry.
interior fantastic, & love the headlight washer jet spray things.
performance well its bloody quick & it can handle the corners nicely at speed, the only thing thats holding me back at the moment its the wobbling when under heary braking etc.

rating i would give it 9/10.

well done seat.

maybe the disks and pads have not had a chance to bed in yet

if people have done banzai stops in it before they are bedded in the disks could be warped already

where can i find some up to date tyre tests?i'm thinking of changing the pirelli's sometime but i want the best tyres that are also quite on the road.any site recomentation?

Most tend to go for Goodyears, GSD3's But im sure there are many other alternatives. I just don't rate the Rosso's or many Pirelli's for that matter!

I always try and change them for something better once they are worn out. Though they ruin the ride too much, I may just get shut of them anyway.

Excuse for a track day i think, to ruin them :D

Thats interesting my FR TDi has pirelli's and under very heavy breaking feels like 'it's floating' - thought it was the electronic's. Tyres nearly worn out now so was going to try the michelin's.

dunlop sportmaxx also very good ...i've done a couple of trackdays and the dunlops wher the best ive ever had...

previous ive had pzero nero pirelli....very bad tire...totally destroyed after a trackday

continental was also very good but was worn out very fast also..
