Just had my car in for a service and they said I need new pads and discs and pads on the front due to lipped discs and corroded pads, now the car only had a service and MOT in may when i bought it and has only done 4-5k since, is this right or has the dealership i bought it from ripped me off? The car is an 07 plate but as stated has only around 30k on the clock, also had new antiroll bar and wishbone bushes last month, surely this can't be right for a 30k car?

Any opinions?

Cheers Alex

Lipped discs is a major selling point when your car goes in for a service. Corroded pads is just to embellish the story a little. Unless you're experiencing problems with brakes grinding or have had a look and seen that the pads are knackered I'd just ignore the dealers sales pitch. My dealer told me for 30k miles that my front and rear discs were lipped and pads getting low. I changed them myself after 30k miles when they were proper worn out. The front discs and pads which they recommended replacing due to lipped discs are still on the vehicle 62k miles later, and only about 3/4 worn.

Yeh, well I've asked them for the parts so if try aren't worn then I'll be complaining to SEAT customer services, and asking for a refund, if they are worn then fair enough, but seems abit odd that after 30 miles it needs new pads and discs, my step brothers car has just hit 70k and hie has only just changed his from originals

Mine needed new discs and pads at 26k... but that's because the car had at some point spent a good few months (probably between 6 and 12) off the road, and the discs and pads had just sat there and corroded.

The only real way to tell is to see a picture of the discs and pads.

If you aren't sure, post up a picture - plenty of people on here will give you an opinion. I seem to remember being told the general rule regarding lipped discs was comparing it to a 1p piece.

If you think they are fine go back and complain directly - if you asked for the parts back they will probably be expecting you back at some point in the near future.

I bought my car at 29k, had to fit front pads and rear shoes at 30k, they were bleeding edge. Only cost £40 for the stuff though.

I heard it was a 2p lol!

But there's a minimum thickness measurement for OEM discs. This is how they should check it at a service IIRC. Get some callipers out and measure them yourself. it's usually ~2mm less than max thickness (new).
